Jaydev Bhojak (07-12-1929 to 03-12-2020) :
The tragedies and losses of 2020 continue as one more dedicated and renowned veteran from the field of Music from Gujarat - Shree Jaydev Bhojak, passed away yesterday afternoon at the age of 91.
Jaydev Bhojak hailed from the family of court musicians of the then Bhavnagar state of Saurashtra region of Gujarat. He served All India Radio as Music Producer, spending major part of his tenure, spanning more than four decades, in Vadodara. After retirement, he settled in Vadodara and continued with his passion and pursuit of music with various activities, especially in the field of Gujarati Light Music, like teaching music, organising music programmes, recordings of collections and albums, writings and compilations on Music and so on.
I got introduced to Jaydevbhai - fondly known as Bhojak Sir - in the second half of 1996. I had approached him with reference from my Guruji in classical music to learn Gujarati Light Music for appearing in the audition for All India Radio. I cleared the audition and continued to learn Gujarati Light Music from him for some more years, while also participating in programmes organised by his institution Bhojak Cultural Group at different places in Gujarat - Vadodara, Mehsana, Visnagar, Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bharuch, Ankleshwar, and so on .... I had the good fortune of presenting several of his compositions on All India Radio, as also in Music albums like Madira, Geet Sudha, Anandghan Padmala, Vaividhya ...., on Doordarshan and on Gujarati channels and in local TV channels of Vadodara ....
A very revered veteran Musician, his contributions to Gujarati Light Music acclimated good recognition among the music circles all over Gujarat and among his fan followings abroad. He received several awards and felicitations for his noteworthy contributions.
Jaydevbhai will live on through his wonderful works - his compositions that run in thousands and through his inspiration for music students and aspirants.
