I have often seen (including mine!) some ordinary discusssion and smooth dialogues getting into a phase of arguments, and the members do not know how, where and when to stop, if the interactions become monotonous, boring, and often point less!
I have figured out the following approach to resolve this aspect; that is quit:
a. when you think the opposite member does not understand (after your three attempts) your point of view,
b. when you do not understand his/her point of view after three attempts by him/her,
c. set a time limit, and quit after a few minutes.
In all these when you quit, it is not necessary to feel that you have lost something; there is no defeat of any kind here.
In most cases you can say: let us change the topic, or let us get on to some other important, and pending work.

Save your energy and put it to use for some more important needs which are always waiting for your time.

The suggested approach would also save your relationships with others.
