I wrote that small poem because when I read the question I was filled with emotion. It's almost as if the person who is asking this question has so many mixed feelings and emotions but they still know what it takes to make their heart beat. Being consumed by love is a brilliant run of emotional bliss. Women out there with children the feeling you get when you deliver your precious baby and hold him/her for that very first time; that to me is a love that consumes you. Right there in that moment your heart is full and your life becomes about them. They are what you see, what you smell, and what you do. Fathers—I know the same rush of complete and utter happiness takes over as well as the fear of anything ever happening to that child takes over and that love has consumed you.
On the relationship level, love that consumes you can be a powerful mess so many feelings, fears, commitments..... it can be one hell of a ride! The thing is that if the love it true and is worthy of consuming we see none of that we simply see the person in front of us.
Closing my eyes I can see you, I can hear your voice, the sound of your laughter, I can see our lives together and a family created out of love. You look at me with so much trust, love, and devotion some how I just know we have found a love worthy of consuming. “Without you there is no me!” I open my eyes with a full heart, only memories of a life that has come and gone remains, I try, but do not succeed, that life belongs to another now not me! What do I do, what's in store for me, why can't I see how to love another like you did me? What once was a gift from heaven, leaves me wondering if there was ever just one man for just one woman and was it you for me? I must give thanks for the privilege of knowing that I was once loved by you. There could never be another for me like you and as we walk away from who we were I will always look back if only to catch a glimpse of a life defined for me. If there was ever one man for just this woman…..
This is the love that consumed me and the source of my knowledge to share with all of you.
