* 7th Day of Navratri *
*Ma Kaalratri or “ Maa Kaali “ is the goddess who is worshiped on the seventh day of Navratri. Kaal refers to time as well as death whereas ratri refers to night or darkness/ignorance. Hence, Ma Kaalratri is the one which brings the death of darkness or the one who ends ignorance. *
*Ma Kaalratri is the most terrorizing forms of Durga. Her complexion is dark as night and has untied bountiful hair. She has four hands and carries a scimitar and a thunder bolt in two of her hands. The other two handsare held in the form of ‘giving’ and ‘protecting’. She has three eyes and flames come out of her nostrils when she breathes. Her necklace shines like the Moon shines in the night. Her mount is a donkey. She is also referred as Shubhankari as she always brings auspicious results to her devotees.*
*Chanda and Munda, the asuras who defeated Deva was creating Havoc. They created two Demons called Shumbha and Nishumbha to fight and destroy universe. With the prayers and pleading for help, Goddess Durga incarnated as Chandi and Kaalaratri. Kaalaratri in a fearsome battle, kills Shumbha and Nishumbha. Chanda Munda created another terrible Horrific Demon called “ Raktabeeja”. *
*Raktabija had the boon that every drop of his blood fell onto the ground, would create thousands of clones of him . When Kaalratri attacked on him, his spilt blood gave rise to several clones of him. As such, it became impossible to defeat him. So while battling, Kaalratri took her ferocious “ Kaali” form, drank his blood to prevent it from falling down, eventually killing Raktabija and helping goddess Chandi to kill his commanders, Shumbha and Nishumbha also*
*Ma Kalratri rules over the planet Shani or Saturn. She is the one who dispenses the merits of good and bad deeds done by people. Worshipping Ma Kaalaratri removes all evils and bad Oman from life bringing peace, knowledge and prosperity.*
