THE FORGETTABLE PROMISE
(based on true story)
Once there were 2 trees at a place where people rarely visited...
The trees stand together even as the sky turned pink, yellow, green, blue and white.
But one day in the height of summer, when sun burned hottest, that place suddenly dried up.
The apple tree, day by day, ran out of water. He felt his roots crackling, his leaves withering.
Then, in quiet empathy, the neem tree shared his roots with the apple tree, so he could soak the water he needed.
He absorbed and withered no more.
Without knowing they bound together in a promise– to share their roots whenever one was in needed.
The Apple tree happily said to him "I'll carry you with me when I become fruitful.
Even if you will be of no use.
I'll always stand by you.
We will always stand together."
Hearing this, the neem tree smiled.
Years slipped away.
The apple tree began to bloom.
Once- withered, lonely apple tree is now full of life.
Meanwhile, Neem tree stood in silence.
With the passing time, Apple tree's liviliness increased, and Neem tree began to wither.
And one day, the people around decided to cut that neem tree.
That day, the neem tree asked to the apple tree "You promised me you would share your roots."
"You are of no use now, while I'm fruitful and in my blooming days. If I share my roots with you, I'll withered too.
It's better for you to leave this place, so that I can have all the water." The apple tree replied
Hearing that, the neem tree said nothing.
He only thought "You will know after I am gone."
And they cut that tree.
After that, the wind always blew stronger. The sunlight became harsher.
More insects and bugs came to visit the apple tree.
Less ripening and more falling of fruits.
And then... the apple tree finally realised what he had done at last.
