The Illusion theory of Social Media.
I wanted to mention few experiences that are supporting my thought that Social Media has a very high dose of illusion.
1. We opened Matrubharti account on Helo app last year to promote our content and divert users towards our app.
It was hardly 10 days and 7 posts and we had over 45k followers on Helo.
Out of curiosity I personally examined few hundred followers and 99% were having dummy names like 00005567abc...
I am sure most of the new users of social media do not examine their followers and assume they have huge follower base.
2. I have attended and delivered live sessions on FB and Insta. Hardly 50 or 100 people were live , in certain cases even less than 25 people were around to interact .
I am not talking about only my sessions, because I am not a celebrity but few RJs had similar number of low live audiences .
While their follower base is huge .
3. Recently the social media accounts of bollywood celebrities were under the scanner for fake followership.
In few cases over 50% followers were fake accounts.
Here with these indicidences I wanted to highlight the illusion factor in young users.
Tiktok app was the biggest Illusion success story. Here every mediocre content creator thought they have huge followers and views .
Who knows how were those views generated but the creator always thought that they had real views.
Innocent Indian consumers, first time internet users from tier 2 and 3 cities are victims of such Illusion theory.
