Judging somebody in your thought- is what I believe is a mistaken. You cannot judge anybody. Because you really cannot be in the situation what he/she has gone through.
You at least should be equal to him or above him- whom you are judging. It is as similar as- you cannot judge whether the world is flat or round standing on it. For the same you need to go up.
In the same vain, Mahatam Gandhi is no ordinary character that anybody can judge.
He is one on of the controversial character like Lord Krishna. When some are respecting him as father of Nation, when some other are also blaming him for dividing country.
By the way, it will too unjustified to judge him in present circumstances. Now we are in free India, but he was a character from a different India, who had sacrificed his life, profession, family for the nation only. What he had in End. Nothing to call as own.
However, it is again a personal question to take whether to respect or criticize him.
I surely pay him all the respect what he truly deserve on eve of Gandhi Jayanti.
