The Language of Silence - Part 3

Some stories don’t unfold slowly — they unfold very slowly.
And the characters in those stories are often the ones whose silence bothers everyone — yet no one ever tries to understand them.

For Arjun, Avya was no longer just a curiosity — she had become a feeling.
An incomplete poem,
an unsung melody,
a broken picture…
that now wanted to be colored again.

---

It was a Friday in college. The weather was slightly chilly. After classes ended, everyone was busy with their own groups — and Arjun sat alone in a corner. That’s when Anvi came running.

> “Arjun bhaiya! Didi looks really upset today. She’s sitting alone at the bus stop… I don’t know what to do.”

Without saying a word, Arjun stood up. A strange restlessness filled his heart — what could have happened? Was something wrong?

He rushed out of the college gate. There was a small bus stop nearby — and there she was, Avya. Sitting alone on an old wooden bench. Eyes lowered, her hair falling across her face.

Arjun quietly walked up and sat beside her, then asked gently:

> “Shall we go somewhere? Without saying anything… just a small journey together.”

Avya looked at him. She didn’t speak, but after a few moments, she nodded softly.

That small nod was a ‘yes’ — small, but for Arjun, it was an entire world.

---

Two silent people sat on the bus… but inside their hearts, a lot was happening.

The bus drove out of the city — trees seemed to run backward, the sun began to set, and the wind carried a peaceful silence.

Arjun looked at Avya — her eyes were moist as she stared out the window, yet her lips remained still.

> “You know, when I was a kid, my mother used to say —
‘Some people don’t speak, but their presence says everything.’
Maybe… you’re one of them.”

Avya turned toward him. Her eyes stayed on his face for a few moments… and then, for the first time, she pulled out her diary and wrote something:

> “Sometimes, words feel like a burden…
and silence feels like peace.”

Arjun smiled and replied:

> “Then today, let’s just live in that peace.”

---

The bus stopped near a small lake.

There was no one around — just the lake, a few boats, and the soft sound of flowing water.

They got off. Arjun sat beneath a tree, while Avya went and sat by the lakeside, a little distance away.

Arjun knew — some questions aren’t meant to be asked. You just wait, and the answers come on their own.

After a few minutes… Avya returned. She handed her diary to Arjun. In it, a line like poetry was written:

> “I’ve been broken, many times.
Tried to piece myself back together every time… but something was always missing.
Now, there are only two people I feel like talking to —
my sister… and you.”

Arjun didn’t need to say anything.
He simply handed the diary back and said:

> “I can feel every word your silence speaks.”

---

Evening had fallen. They boarded the bus back.
This time, the distance felt shorter —
because something had connected between them… trust.

---

That day, for the first time, Avya had spent time with a boy — without speaking a word, yet saying everything.

And for Arjun —
that day became one of the most precious memories of his life.
