Today on the eve of International Women and Girl Day in Science remembering Kalpana Chawla . She is the first astronaut of Indian origin to have forayed into the space. She first flew on a Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997 . She died on February 1, 2003 when Space Shuttle Columbia and the crew perished during entry, 16 minutes prior toscheduled landing.
