Unforgettable Voyage - Ranjan Desai - 8

                          Chapter - 8

     Garima Desai!

She belonged to my community. This could prove beneficial for me later!

She had come into my life and changed me considerably.

I was living in a negative environment... I thought everything was wrong... but meeting Garima was truly a great miracle, and overnight I became positive. I started considering myself perfect in every way.

      Garima's presence worked wonders.

I started counting myself among singers like Mukesh, Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar, K.L. Saigal, etc.  It was as if all their voices had entered me at once.

Shyam too supported this idea, and I started soaring.

At that time, Hemant Kumar's voice had captivated me:

"Either listen to your heart, O people of the world,Or let me remain silent for now.How can I call sorrow happiness?Let those who say so, say it."

This song had completely permeated my heart, mind, and every fiber of my being.

The song's tone was negative, but I clothed it in the language of positivity.  Either listen to your heart, O people of the world,or let me say something now.How can I call happiness sorrow?Let those who say so, say what they want.

The film 'Anupama' proved to be my favorite film.

At the end of the song, Hemant Kumar sings:

Will anyone take on someone else's pain?No one has that much compassion.Let the flowing tears continue to flow,Now leave the false consolations aside.

I had an experience during that time.

A married woman named Sushila lived in our building. She had two children. Her husband was mentally ill. The son had inherited the father's deficiency. Her father-in-law was blind. In that situation, her younger brother of his came to live in her house.

From the very first day, he had eyes on his nephew 's wife  Sushila.

The husband didn't earn anything. In that situation, the father-in-law was running the household expenses. On that pretext, he had brought his daughter-in-law under his control.

One day, Sushila's crying could be heard from her house. Hearing this, I was deeply disturbed.  I had immediately gone to Sushila's house with the intention of helping her.  How old was I at that time?

I went to her house.  Upon learning this, Geeta bahen came to pick me up.

At that time, I gave Sushila some water to drink.

Seeing Geeta bahen, Sushila's mother-in-law requested her to be reassured.

"Don't worry. Your son is doing good work. Nothing will happen to him."

When I left, I don't know where Sushila suddenly got the strength from.

She firmly confronted her uncle-in-law and threw him out of the house.

At that time, I was inspired, and I changed the lyrics of the song.

When someone experiences pain,That  is not pain but the path of happiness.Let the flowing tears stop now, Let happiness come to your lips.

I had intervened in Sushila's matter. Geeta bahen was certainly upset about that, but she expressed happiness with the outcome.

Several boys were witnesses to what was happening ibetween Sushila and her uncle-in-law!!

I don't know what it was, but I didn't blame anyone. I had sympathy for everyone, a desire to listen to everyone, and a strong urge to help them.

In class, I always tried to impress Garima.

'Dhool Ka Phool' is my favorite film.  It was.

"I want the refuge of your love,I am being faithful, and I want faithfulness in return."

Through that song, I had made a sincere attempt to convey my feelings to Garima's heart.

        I had also translated it.

"I want the refuge of your love,I am being faithful, and I want faithfulness in return."

Hearing this, she burst into laughter, as if she had heard a joke.

Perhaps she knew, or perhaps she didn't.

She didn't express any reaction.  Yet, I became optimistic about her.

Psychology was her favorite subject. So, once I bought a book for her from a street vendor and gifted it to her.

There was one thing. She never spoke to me directly. But before every exam, even though she was in a different hall, she would invariably come to my hall to wish me luck. This boosted my morale. I was very happy about this.

My friends were surprised by the way I tried to get involved with Garima with such dignity. But no one stopped me.

Perhaps they knew. I was defeated twice in my attempts at romantic relationships. The story with Ananya was impenetrable. But I had fallen in love with Manish's sister, a one-sided love.

Around that time, I heard from someone:

       "Garima is engaged."

I was deeply shocked to hear this.

I wasn't ready to accept it.

I prayed that it was false news.

Finally, I told Anurag about my situation.  "I've fallen in love with Garima. Please check. Is it true that she's engaged?"

Hearing this, he immediately confirmed it.

"She really is engaged. And she's getting married during the holidays."

Even then, I didn't trust him.

Because my school friend Shyam had turned me against all my friends.

"Don't trust any of your friends..."

And that's why I got caught in a whirlwind of confusion

The exam results were out. So, one evening I went to college.

      Two students had failed.

       I felt sad about that.

After seeing the results, I was walking towards the station... That's when I met Garima with her younger sister Grishma. I was very happy about this. I talked to her and emotionally told her,

      "Two students have failed."

She was surprised to see my expression.  Two days later, my friend's wedding was to take place. Garima knew him, but she had never spoken to him. To continue our relationship, I informed Garima, saying:

"My friend Jawahar is getting married the day after tomorrow. I want you to be there at the wedding."

"But I don't know him. How can I come?"

"Come as my friend. I'm inviting you. If I see you tomorrow, I'll give you the invitation card."

And she agreed to visit me next day. I went to the college with Shyam. We waited for her for an hour, but she disappointed me.

Those days, I had watched Rajesh Khanna's film 'Raaz'.

There was a song in it:

"We are alone, come wherever you are Where should I call out to you, where are you?"

This song was sung in the film during the separation of the hero and heroine, but I gave it a positive twist. And I wanted to sing this song at my friend's wedding.

"We were alone, we came wherever we were..."

This was about the reunion of two lovers.

It was a night of reunion for my friend and his wife.

One of our professors was also present at that wedding. I made a request to him.  "I wrote this song for my friend's wedding celebration. Please promote it."

But he did not pay any attention

It gave me an electric shock
