And the ball goes up in the air , so as my heart beat.and we won the match by 4 wickets....then follows the celebration all over India..same to same everywhere.
Yes, it's universal that India is so obsessed with cricket and nothing can break its spirit, enthu, madness, love towards the game.
We are diversified, Each state is different from the other in many ways, be it language, food, culture, heritage but yes, the love for cricket is same everywhere.
It doesn't matter from which state the star player or our favourite player hails and comes from. We celebrate his every win as if he has won a battle for our India. Whenever the Indian team wins The celebration is equal in every state ,in every city, in every small village. The main roads of cities are jammed with traffic hooting for our win. The tricolour is seen everywhere up in the sky., the fire crackers shout out the loudest for our victory. Its like the new year eve or Diwali is celebrated again and again with every win.
From ages we have seen rifts between two states over the use of the water from the common river passing through both the states, the ruling parties blaming the opposition, varied differences in different castes ,and creed and afcourse the major always on set fire is relegion. But when it comes to Cricket, all becomes Indians, it's all about India.Even Bollywood fails to create this magic of togetherness, oneness.
And yes,one more common thing is the so called superstitions or blind beliefs. Nearly every family or set of friends have blind beliefs regarding cricket and it's quite same everywhere. Like wearing the same lucky dress or tshirt while watching every match of India , to make it win. To sit with crossed legs till the end, not to drink water till the match gets over and the list is endless My father always used to gave some negative remarks whenever an Indian player was about to action. He believed that his negative sayings turns positive instantly and results in our win. One of my cousins used to sit in other room and only listened to commentary from Tv placed in living room., She believd that whenever she sees the screen , our player gets caught or run out .So actually she literally avoided looking directly at screen in a live match to make India win. What a sacrifice! And yes nobody even those science enthusiastics also do not dare to give us any gyan on these superstitions instead everyone supports your nonsense ,your so called beliefs and your intuitions.
Be it Test matches, one days ,super leagues or world cup.anything is played holds its charm. You may say that IPL( Indian Premier league)devides but in my notice IPL matches may devide viewers at the start but as the series progresses, it makes us unite.for example if our favourite team looses the score ,we immediately cheer up for next team close to us and thus be with IPL till the finals. our team may not be in finals but we can find out one player or place to cheer for and be on that side to do lots of hooting. Whenever IPL comes my initial support is always for Sun Risers Hyderabad.,if it fails I shift to Gujrat Titans as I am Gujrati , if this one also looses I start my support to Mumbai Indians as I am born and brought up in Maharashtra. Even if Mumbai Indians is absent I will find something to watch for like once I have hooted for KolKata knight riders even though I had nothing to connect with Kolkata except the love for King Khan.As I am an avid fan of KKR's owner Shahrukh Khan and wanted to see him win, I cheered up for KKR. Thats the magic of Cricket in India that it belongs to all of us in one or other way.
Right from those years when I was charmed by Imran Khan at the age of six or seven till I understood that he is from Pakistan and Pakistan is our rival team in every match or every matter to lovely teen years of solid crush on Ajay Jadeja ( common, he stil has that cute smile to fall for) to be silent fan of silent Rahul Dravid to see Sachin's rise till "Bharat Ratna" ,to understand the game fully and see Dhoni team bring the world cup ,to witness Virat's fiery game ,to Rohit's witty answers. Cricket is present at every stages of my life.
It's all about Cricket , the love for cricket the game which unites this otherwise diverse country.
