“I really very much like crops, trees and fields. They are very rare in the place I am residing.” Susmitha said. Her face glowed with pleasure while saying that. She felt a little uneasy to eat her dinner so between all of them. She very daringly entered into that house and wildly secured the stay. She did not know how much Madan believed her even he was appearing believed her completely. She had decided in herself strongly to give the diary back and ask him to forgive her for the mistakes.
“See, Susmitha as well interested in seeing these things. You must not forget taking her into our fields tomorrow.” Observing his brother in sideways Pallav said. He knew about his brother a lot. He never interested in any girl. That Mamatha tried and tried and tried to win his love but he was not yielded. Suddenly Mamatha disappeared from the village and no one knew what happened to her. But how this girl got friendship with his brother he could not understand. At the same time without any intimation or invitation this girl’s coming and staying in their home as well was a little awkward. But still if his brother preferred this girl, she must be quite good. He never would object to that.
“Sure I do so Annayya. You don’t worry.” Madan said. After hearing Susmitha so in that room the hate and anger which pooled in his heart for so long a time evaporated instantly. At the same time there was a lot of reason for believing what Susmitha said. He was feeling thrilled knowing that Susmitha was in love with him.
“She is indeed very sharp. She did lot of help to me in the kitchen.” Jayanthi said. She was the only person then who was not eating but engaged in serving the food to the people there.
“But I know very little about cooking.” Susmitha stopped her eating to say that. “Despite my interest in it, I could not manage to learn that art much.”
“While you are staying here, I shall make you an expert in it. Don’t worry.” Jayanthi assured her.
They had finished their dinner talking in between themselves so.

“How did you sleep last night” Jayanthi asked Susmitha when she had come into the kitchen. “It is indeed quite a new place to you.”
“I slept wonderful. I never have felt this much good anywhere else before” Susmitha did not say that just to make Jayanthi happy. She indeed felt like that.
“As you have accustomed only to town life upto now, I thought that you may feel uncomfortable here” Jayanthi said engaging herself in the kitchen work there.
“Your assumption is reasonable. But if I have not come here, I would never have realized how sweet the village environment is.” Taking the coffee cup given to her by Jayanthi, Susmitha said. She went near to a chair in the kitchen and placed herself into that while carefully managing the coffee cup in her hand. Jayanthi was busy in preparing something delicious at the gas stove.
“Madan said you want to stay in our home for sometime. Just feel as it is your home.” Jayanthi turned back, looked at Susmitha and said.
“Thank you very much, aunty. I shall stay here for one month or so. After that I shall go to my house again” Susmitha hesitatingly said.
“I did not ask you when you would go to your home. You can stay here as long as you want. We have no objection whatsoever even you wanted to stay here forever.” Jayanthi’s smiling face indeed eased Susmitha’s heart. She was feeling fear how Jayanthi would take her intention to stay long in that house.
“I really like to do so.” Susmitha could not conceal the pleasure in her voice. “But there are some urgent works I need to attend in my town after one month. Completing all those, I shall come back to here and stay with you people.” She just said like that for the present thinking furiously how to fulfill her real misson for her coming there.
Susmitha was feeling very much uncomfortable in herself thinking how these people would feel if they knew her real intention. She has to marry Madan as soon as she entered into her twenty second year to her problem to be solved completely and then only she could do anything going to her town. She was praying God that everything would be as she was expecting should be.
Jayanthi continued looking into the face of Susmitha. She felt an unknown bond between herself and to this girl. ‘How good it would be if Madan marries this girl!’ she thought in herself.
“You better go with Madan in the evening into our tope. It would be quite enjoyable in it” once again busying herself in the work there Jayanthi said.
“I really love doing so” Susmitha felt even more happy on hearing that.

“I am going to the fields” as usual Madan said to his Vadina when he was ready to move out of the house.
“Take that girl as well with you. You promised yesterday night.” Jayanthi said.
“What the villagers do think if we both go together into the fields so?” Madan raised an objection. He indeed wanted to take Susmitha with him but he thought it would not be appeared proper if he took her with him straight away.
“Tell them that she is our guest or your girl friend. But you must take her with you.” Jayanthi firmly said indicating that there was no option to him except taking her with him.
By then Susmitha came down from the upstairs room. She changed herself into her usual traditional wear, sari and blouse as before. Even she was beautiful in Punjabi dress as well, her glamour in sari and blouse was having a striking influence on the people there. Especially Madan could not change his sight from her at all.
“Better you start now.” His vadina prodded him. “Otherwise it would become dark soon and I don’t want her to stay in that tope night time at all.”
Madan nodded his head and asked her to follow him. It was quite embarassing to Susmitha to walk with Madan on the road so. It appeared Madan as well was feeling a little awkward to walk with her. But her heart was relieved a lot as Madan agreed for her staying in their home so and she did not think that it would be done that easily. She did not like to blackmail him so with the secret she learnt from his diary but she was tempted to do so to secure a confirmed stay in his house. She had decided in herself strongly to ask his apology and gave back his diary once she reached the home again.
None of the villagers who were going on the road go without passing a curious look on them both and soon there were smiles on their faces. Madan felt quite uneasy. Susmitha as well found out his situation and she too felt uneasy. She thought that she did a mistake coming out like that with him.
“How far your mango tope is?” trying to make her voice as casual as possible she asked.
“Just twenty minutes or so by walk. Not very far.” Looking into her face Madan said. She was feeling a little shy and it gave her beauty a new dimension.
“Madan. Who is this girl? Where you are going?”
Hearing that voice they both had to stop. There was a person standing before them. He might be aged thirty five years or so. His beard was grown dense as if he had not shaved for three months. His eyes were deep and there was an unfathomable expression in his face.
“Our relative. I am taking her into my mango tope.” Madan’s face muscles were tightened. It seemed that he wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible.
“Your relative? I never have heard or seen this woman upto now. I know Madhuri, Sukanya who do come to your home occasionally…”
“There is no chance that you know about all our relatives. She is my distant uncle’s daughter from my mother’s side.” Controlling his irritation with difficulty Madan said.
There was a pause and Susmitha was just listening and observing the situation there. She as well wanted that person to go away from that place as fast as possible.
“Have you heard anything about Mamatha? However hard we have tried, we could not find her at all.” suddenly there was anxiety in his face and voice and the mention of Mamatha’s name made Madan and Susmitha even more uneasy.
“No. I did not hear anything about her.” Madan was struggling to answer him in the usual way.
“If she comes to you or if you come to know anything about her, please let me know. I am thinking strongly that she sure does come to you sooner or later. You know how much….”
“Sure I will let you know.” It had become quite unbearable to Madan to stay there and he started walking leaving that person there and Susmitha silently followed him.
There came a river in between. They both got onto the bridge to cross it. It did not surprise Susmitha that Madan walked fast to cross it. She guessed that Mamatha might be fallen into the river from this bridge itself and Madan was feeling uneasy to stay on it for longer. Ten minutes or so afterwards they both were in the tope.
“This is our tope, the place which I like most in the whole universe.” The expression in his face changed suddenly and his facial muscles relaxed. There was a big smile on his lips when he looked at her.
“You are right. How nice this place is! Anyone can enjoy to stay in a place like this.” turning round and looking into the four directions Susmitha said.
“This is my favourite place in this tope. I want to stay particularly at this place in this tope in the evening times.” Madan said.
“I see” Susmitha nodded her head.
“Better we both go and settle on those big rocks there. Then we can talk peacefully whatever we want.” Showing the rocks yonder Madan said.
Susmitha nodded her head in agreement.
Susmitha chosen a flat rock to sit near to Madan and she felt it hard to her bottom. She put her feet as well on the rock and hugged her knees to her heart and then looked into Madan’s eyes. Madan also sat on a rock opposite to her and faced her.
“Before we talk anything else, first let me say sorry for blackmailing you so. Just remind me as soon as we go to our home, I shall sure give that diary back to you.” Susmitha said but as she could not sit in that posture longer so, she had put her feet down and placed her hands in her lap.
“Alright. I forgot about that. Even you keep the diary so with you, I have got no objection.” Madan said with a relaxed tone.
“But why did you have written such things in your diary? Don’t you know how dangerous it is if it fell into the eyes of anyone else?” taking her hands from the lap and balancing herself by placing them on the rock in her back while leaning backwards, Susmitha asked.
