Why Mosquitoes and Insects Always Chase the Light ?

🌟 “Why Mosquitoes and Insects Always Chase the Light” 🌟
Author – Jaswant Singh Saini, Ludhiana
Once upon a time, in a deep, lush green forest filled with tall trees and sparkling streams, a strange silence hung in the air. All the mosquitoes and insects of the forest had gathered together for a meeting. Their tiny faces, usually buzzing with irritation, now looked sad, confused, and full of worry.
One mosquito sighed and said,
“Why does no one like us? Wherever we go, people try to chase us away.”
Another mosquito added with frustration,
“We live together in unity. We stay in groups and never leave each other alone. Yet, the moment humans see us, they get irritated. Why does everyone hate us so much?”
An insect with delicate wings spoke softly,
“But look at the firefly! It always stays alone, yet everyone loves it. People smile when they see its glow. Children follow it with joy, and even the darkness becomes beautiful because of its light.”
Hearing this, all the mosquitoes and insects became even more curious.
“So what’s the secret behind the firefly’s light? Why does everyone admire it but dislike us?” they wondered.
After hours of discussion, they finally decided,
“Tonight, we will go together and ask the firefly the secret behind its magical glow!”
When the next night arrived, the entire group buzzed and fluttered their way to the firefly’s small resting place. The firefly was peacefully sitting on a leaf, glowing gently in the night.
One mosquito immediately asked,
“Dear firefly, please tell us — where does your beautiful light come from?”
Another insect leaned forward eagerly,
“Please share your secret with us! We also want to shine like you. We want everyone to love us too.”
The firefly listened quietly. He knew this was a difficult question, not because he didn’t have an answer, but because giving the wrong answer to the wrong minds could cause harm. He looked at the mosquitoes and thought:
“These mosquitoes claim to be united, but they only unite when it benefits them. They trouble everyone and suck the blood of innocent beings.”
Then he looked at the insects and thought:
“These insects survive by feeding on the hard work of others. Their unity is also selfish — they gather only when something benefits them.”
The firefly understood that telling the harsh truth directly would only hurt them. Wisdom meant choosing the right words with kindness.
So, with a gentle smile, he said,
“My light comes from the Supreme Light — the Divine Source.”
All the mosquitoes and insects gasped.
“The Supreme Light? Where can we find it?”
The firefly replied softly,
“The Supreme Light is everywhere. But to receive it, one must have purity, kindness, selfless service, and true intentions.”
But before he could finish, the mosquitoes and insects heard only one thing — “The Supreme Light is everywhere!”
Without thinking, they all flew away in excitement.
Some rushed toward electric bulbs,
some toward burning lamps,
and some straight into the fire.
“This must be the Supreme Light!” they shouted.
In their blind chase, they collided, burned, and disappeared in the very brightness they believed would make them shine.
They never understood that the firefly’s glow did not come from bulbs or flames, but from his good deeds, humility, self-control, kindness, and the grace of the Divine.
And even today…
when you see mosquitoes and insects circling around a flame, a bulb, or any light — remember:
they are still searching for that Supreme Light whose true meaning they never understood.
Moral:
True light does not come from outside — it shines from within.
Those who chase show-off, selfish desires, and shortcuts can never attain real respect or true brilliance. ✨
