The House Beyond the Fog

It began with a dare.

In the small village of Ravensbrook, surrounded by dense forests and curling rivers, there was a house no one spoke of. Covered in vines and forever hidden behind a thick layer of fog, it stood like a ghost at the edge of the woods.

“Whoever stays there one night will get 1000 rupees,” joked a group of teenagers one stormy evening. Among them was Riya, a brave 14-year-old girl, known for her boldness.

"I'll do it," she said, her eyes steady.

Her friends laughed, unsure if she was serious. But the next evening, as darkness swallowed the sun, Riya put on her hoodie, grabbed a flashlight, and stepped toward the fog that led to the black house.

Chapter 2: Entering the House

As she passed through the fog, everything behind her seemed to disappear. The world turned quiet—too quiet. Even her footsteps were muffled. The house loomed in front of her, crooked and ancient, with windows like black, watching eyes.

She stepped inside.

The door creaked shut behind her on its own.

The air smelled of wet soil, rotting wood, and something... metallic. Blood?

She explored with her flashlight. The living room was covered in old furniture, torn paintings, and broken dolls hanging from strings. A ticking sound echoed in the background, though there were no clocks.

In the corner stood an old mirror.

When Riya looked in, her reflection didn’t copy her. It smiled... before she did.

Chapter 3: The Night Deepens

Suddenly, she heard footsteps upstairs.

“Is someone there?” she called, pretending to sound brave.

No reply.

She climbed the stairs. Each step groaned under her weight. At the top was a hallway lined with doors. She chose one and opened it slowly.

It was a child’s room—but all the toys were stitched together with human hair, and on the wall, in red letters, it read:

“HE NEVER LEFT.”

Riya backed away, heart pounding.

Then the whispers began.

Faint at first, like wind. But they grew louder.

"Get out... turn back... don't look behind..."

She turned.

A tall figure in a long coat with a stitched face was crawling toward her—upside down, hands twisted backward.

Riya screamed and ran, slamming the door.

But the house was changing.

The hallway stretched endlessly. Doors led to the same room. Her flashlight flickered. Every mirror now showed a future version of her—pale, lifeless, eyes gouged out.

Chapter 4: The Secret Room

Panting, Riya stumbled upon a hidden door behind a torn curtain. It was small and carved with runes. Against her better judgment, she entered.

Inside was a single candle and a book made of skin.

She opened the book and found names—villagers from Ravensbrook. Some were crossed out. At the very end, she saw her own name… slowly being written by an invisible hand.

She grabbed the candle and shouted, “I’m not part of your curse!”

Suddenly, all around her, children’s laughter turned to screams. The stitched man appeared behind her, whispering in her ear, “But you chose to come.”

Chapter 5: Escape… or Not?

Riya ran, her only thought: Get out.

She found a back door. Pulled it. It opened!

She ran through the fog, out of the house, and collapsed on the grass outside. Her friends were waiting, pale and wide-eyed.

"You did it!" they said. "We were about to go look for you."

Riya smiled, relieved.

But as they walked away, none of them noticed…

Riya's reflection in a puddle didn’t walk with her. It just stood still… and grinned.
