An untellable secret
(Some secrets may better remain secrets for ever)
Kotra Siva Rama Krishna
Sukanya breathed heavily and said “I need to say a very important thing to you now.” Then she explained the dream she got the day before. “What I understood is Nirupama did not like anyone knows about the reason that compelled her to commit suicide. I am not seeing any reason particularly to know about it once Nirupama is not interested in letting it to be known to anyone else.”
“I am also feeling and thinking in the same way you are doing.” Niranjan said. “But see… yesterday you have got only a dream. The Nirupama in it also is your mind but not Nirupama. Basing on the circumstances, you are thinking in yourself that Nirupama does not want the said reason to be out. So you thought unconsciously about that and your thinking projected like a dream so.”
“Whatever you may say.” Sukanya breathed heavily and said. “I am not thinking that yesterday’s dream is just a dream. I am thinking that Nirupama let her opinion known to me like that. It would be quite better that Smaran and Menaka do not try anymore to know about that.”
“It is Nirupama’s father wants to know about that, neither Smaran nor Menaka. If Ranganath asks them to stop they do stop.”
“Then why don’t you talk with that Ranganath? He sure does listen to you. I am also not seeing any useful purpose by unearthing unsavourable past like that.”Latha said.
“I already talked with Ranganath. He is hell bent in knowing about it.” Niranjan said. “We are helpless in this regard.”
“You may be right.” Latha nodded her head. “Better we do both go our home now.”
Niranjan remained staring at them both while they were going out of his house.

“What is that much big matter you want to discuss with me now, tell me?” keeping a smile on his lips while looking into the face of Menaka, Smaran said.
“It is my strong opinion. Suddenly popped up into my mind only yesterday night. I thought it would be better we do have a discussion on this. If my presumption is right we can find a way to get the truth out..”
“First tell me. Don’t maintain suspense.” Leaning back in the chair Smaran said.
“Before I make my point here, I want to point out what I am thinking noticeable.” She paused for a moment. “Nirupama is daughter to both Ranganath and Nirmala also. Her death is a shock to them both. But it is only Ranganath who wants to know the truth. Nirmala not even a little is bothering about it.”
“Have you forgotten? Nirmala is mad. She is still thinking that her daughter is alive.”
“You and that Niranjan both certified that she is forcing that imagination on her that her daughter is alive and deep inside she knows the truth.”
“Then” Smaran made a questioning look.
“Why not Nirmala is worrying to know about the truth just as Ranganath is worrying?”
“Alright. What is your theory on it?” Smaran straightly asked her.
“Nirmala knows the truth.”
“What does that mean?”
“That means, Nirmala knows why her daughter committed suicide.”
Smaran laughed loud. There was no surprise at all in him.
“Are not you feeling surprise at what I have said? Is there a chance that it may be so?” Menaka frowned and asked him.
“This is uppermost in my mind also for the last one week or so. Yes, I agree. Nirupama’s mother knows why her daughter committed suicide.”
There was heavy silence launched between them both then. “May I tell you one other thing that is even more shocking to you?”
“Please tell me.” There was suddenly interest picked up in Menaka’s face.
“I cannot say why at present, but Nirmala for some reason justifying her daughter’s death.”
“What the bloody hell you are talking about?” Menaka angrily said. “It never can be true. Why and how Nirmala justifies her daughter’s death?.”
“I cannot give you the reasons. But in Nirmala’s opinion it was something inevitable and has to happen only like that.”
“If it is so I never can pardon that Nirmala.” The facial muscles tightened in Menaka.
“Don’t get angry. We both have come onto a unanimous opinion that Nirmala knows the reason for her daughter committing suicide. Now we have to think of ways to make that truth out.”
“What should we do? What are your plans?” Sukanya eagerly asked him.
“I cannot give you any plans now. I have to think about.” Smaran said. “In the meanwhile you continue in the usual way. Most important don’t forget your hypnotism. I am having my hopes on this particularly.”
“Even I forget about it that Nirmala would not forget about it at all. Everyday she is compelling me to hypnotize her so.”
“In my opinion we can solve this forever just in three or four days.” Smaran said.
After that Smaran and Menaka talked for some more time.

“I am so happy that you have come to my office like this.” looking at Niranjan, Smaran said.
“In fact I have been thinking to come to you for a long time but could manage to come only on this day.”
“Tell me? What indeed made you to decide to come to me now?”
“You appeared as an interesting person to me. So I want to see more of you by coming into your office.” Niranjan paused for a moment and said. “Your office is indeed very neat and good. You are keeping it in the best way possible.”
“Thank you very much for your liking my office. Really I like keeping my premises clean and good.” Smaran said.
There was some silence between them both then. Smaran was about to say something then Niranjan said.
“Yesterday Sukanya and her mother came to me.”
“Is it is so? For what purpose?”
Then Niranjan explained to Smaran with what Sukanya was suffering.
“No surprise. I came to know that Nirupama was a very close friend to Sukanya. Her sudden death like that caused such problems to Sukanya. I think you have given the best treatment and medication to her.” Smaran said.
“No treatment and no medicine. I have just made her realize the nature of thoughts and how to control them.” Then Niranjan explained to Smaran what he asked Sukanya to do.
“Indeed very best treatment in my opinion.” Smaran nodded his head appreciating.
“It is not just that” then Niranjan explained to him about the dream that Sukanya got. Then said “Sukanya is strongly feeling that Nirupama never likes that secret out which compelled her to commit suicide.”
“But the Nirupama in her dream is not real Nirupama. It was only her mind. Then how it would be Nirupama’s wish?”
“It is not just basing on the dream. But considering some other things also, she is thinking that Nirupama does not want to let her secret out.”
“Alright, I agree. But what you and me can do in this? It is Ranganath who asked me to unearth the truth. If Ranganath asks me to stop this I surely stop it.”
“I have already talked with Ranganath about this. He is stubborn to know about that secret.”
“If it is so, I don’t think I can do anything in this matter. There is an agreement also between me and that Ranganath.”
“I agree.” Niranjan nodded his head. “But do the one last attempt to change his mind. Anyhow it is quite evident to all of us that Nirupama did not want that truth to be out. I am thinking that it is better leaving it like that.” Niranjan earnestly said. “I also make one last time attempt to change his mind if opportunity comes.”
Frowns gathered on Smaran’s forehead and after few seconds he said “Okay I do try. But I am sure he would not listen to me.” Smaran said.
“Alright. Where is your niece Menaka? is she at Ranganath’s house now?”
“I think, she went to her friend Sukanya’s home. She said like that to me. They both might be indulged in serious discussion of something. If they both meet somewhere, they don’t know the time.” Smaran said.
“That Sukanya also is a very active girl. She and that Nirupama used to come to me for every two or three days. They have wonderful confidence on my psychological knowledge and ability.”
“No surprise at all. I also sometimes do feel awe and respect towards you. You are indeed interesting and amazing!” Smaran said to Niranjan.
Niranjan smiled but did not say anything at all.
“How my niece’s treatment to that Nirmala is going on now?”
“Just wonderful! Your niece is an expert in hypnotism. She is very easily putting that Nirmala under hypnosis.”
“Have you ever hypnotized that Nirmala?”
“I have not got such a chance at all. In fact it was Nirupama who used to hypnotize her in the past. Now it is Menaka. In fact….” Niranjan paused for a moment and then said. “As Nirmala already experienced hypnotism under her own daughter, now she is hypnotized by Menaka quite easily.”
“You are absolutely right. Menaka also is not thinking that she is an expert in hypnotism.”
“Its not so. Menkaa perfectly knows how to put someone under hypnosis” Niranjan said. “Menaka is indeed an intelligent. If she wants she sure can become a famous psychologist.”
“But Menaka is not interested in psychology or detection. She is much more interested in mathematics.”
“Alright then.” Niranjan nodded his head and said. “Whatever studies she may choose, she sure does get A grade in that.”
Smaran tried to see Niranjan’s eyes through his black spectacles but he could not see anything that relates to his eyes. Those black glasses are one way black glasses. The person who wears those black spectacles can see everything around quite clearly. But people cannot see the eyes under the glasses of the spectacles.
Some more time Niranjan and Smaran talked.
“I do go now. We spent together indeed a very enjoyable time.” Getting off from the chair Niranjan asaid.
“In fact it is my pleasure to say.” Then Smaran accompanied him until the door. Then the door closed behind Niranjan.
Once he left the office, Smaran started thinking again. Why he was that particularly trying to stop the investigation? Would there be any problem if it has been known to one and all? The theory he got in his mind regarding the secret was becoming more and more strong.
***
“Did I disturb you?” Looking at Smaran who was rubbing his eyes with his hands, Ranganath said.
“You did not disturb me at all. In fact I am thinking to come to you to discuss some important matter.”
“Tell me I am quite attentive and active here to hear whatever you are going to say.”
Smaran got off from the chair. “I have already told you about this. I tell you again. This is the last time. I don’t broach it again. Decision shall be completely yours.”
“You may please tell me what it is.” Ranganat irritatingly said.
Smaran heavily hissed out and said. “Sukanya, Menaka, Niranjan and I also are thinking very strongly that Nirupama did not want the said truth to be known to anyone at all. Then what would be the use now by knowing it? First of all why should we know about the reason that made Nirupama to commit suicide? Whatever we may do we cannot get Nirupama back.”
“I am really cannot understand what you are saying.”
“If you do agree we stop this investigation and leave your girl in peace.”
There was heavy silence prevailed between them both for sometime.
“Tell me what you are thinking? What should we do now?” Smaran said again. He wanted to make the last attemept to change his mind.
“You do in the same way you are doing till now. I hired you to know about that dreadful secret that made my daughter to commit suicide. We have discussed about this before. I have made it quite clear to you then how much I want the truth to come out.”
