In the aftermath of the floods in the South West Monsoon in July and August, 2018, Kerala's floods have caused severe floods in most of the districts in Kerala and floods in hilly regions. As the water level in the dams raised, its shutters opened up results the impact of the floods. 35 out of 54 dams in Kerala have been opened for the first time in history. After five years, five shutters of Cheruthoni dam were opened. Wayanad district is completely isolated with strong rainfall. The rivers affected the road, rail and air transport networks. The 2018 floods are said to be the largest flood in Kerala since the 1924 flood, known as the floodplain of the ninety-nine. About 483 persons were killed in heavy rains, floods and floods, 14 were missing and 140 were hospitalized, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told a special session of Parliament to discuss subsequent events. A total of 14,50,707 people from 3,91,494 lakh families have been relocated to the relief camps of August 21st and announced a high alert warning to all the 14 districts of Kerala.
I would like to address this issue can only be tackle as what we do.The citizens came forward irrespective of religion, ideology or status. This author has seen and managed many such disasters, but has never seen such spontaneous response from people from all walks of life willing to go the extra mile to help others in distress. The IT-savvy young volunteers got together in no time and provided great support to rescue teams. Take the contribution of the people away from the equation, and the gaps would be large and obvious.
