Energy conservation
Whoever said children are our best teachers, sure knew what he was talking about. Because I agree, whole heartedly and absolutely. I have had firsthand experience. And I would give the credit of all that I am learning from my eleven year daughter, to her teachers at school.
And also of course hats off to all the crusaders of Green Earth and the likes. All the campaigners on TV and newspapers and various other media. The collective effort has finally begun to pay off. The new generation is at it. Like I mentioned earlier, my eleven year daughter is the greatest crusader of recycling and saving energy in our family. She ritually collects all the wasted paper from her father’s office, puts it all in a paper bag because, ‘we should not be using plastic Mom.’ And then carries it to school to use in the school’s recycling plant. A thumbs up to that. Not only that, whenever it rains heavily, she places an empty bucket right under that particular corner of the roof where she knows water will come pouring down the spout. ‘We can use this water for the plants tomorrow Mom.’ I am very impressed and yes, very humbled. There’s more. She has instructed me that whatever vegetable and fruit waste, in the form of peels etc gets collected in the kitchen, should all be put into a container. She then goes with her grandmother to feed it to a cow in a nearby Ashram. The lucky cow now looks forward to her visits. It’s definitely win-win situation. And then there are countless other things she is conscious of doing every day. She will take care that the fan, AC, TV, lights etc. is switched off whenever she leaves the room. She is also quick to tightly turn off a dripping tap and to encourage her elder sister into doing the same. Taking great pride in all her efforts, her father, a wildlife and nature conservation activist himself, has gifted her a pretty little portable solar lamp.
So here’s a big thanks to all her teachers for inspiring her to do her bit. Because it in turn has inspired us all too. Therefore I am going to sign off now and then make sure that I turn off the computer and not only switch off the power but also ensure that I pull out the plug.
