Fashion in 1980’s
Description
In this article I have focused on the fashion of 1980’s, in which there is a comparison of the todays and earlier fashion. There is description of the Bollywood fashion statement also with some of the popular beauties in the Film Industry.
Fashion is the most important part of the personality. Since the India has developed the fashion has taken its important aspect in everybody’s life. Fashion now and then has changed. The style and the dressing of the fashion designer was widely use in the Bollywood and Hollywood. The fashion statement has started with bold make up and dark color clothes. The style was incomplete without the trendy and the bold hairstyle and the big accessories. Today’s fashion is also back with the magnificent look and extraordinary appeal.
80’s Fashion Returns with Style!
Leggings are the fashion product which was at time of 80’s, now from past 5-6yeasr leggings are inn fashion, now with different patterns and mix and match styles with different attires. Legging has become the latest and never old fashion in the industry.
Leggings have now become a popular trend
From dull and boring to bold and flashy, Bollywood was introduced to fashion in the 1980s. The 80’s were all about a mix of styles with beat. It was the time when everyone had their own individual styles depending on their lifestyle and personality.
Strating from the Desco Dancer, Actor Mithun Chakraborty wore silver bell bottoms, and a Zebra Striped Zacket , which was in fashion with a high boom. At that time the clothing were simple and shabby with the touch of shine and glitter.
In 1982, the film Disco Dancer was released. In Disco Dancer, Mithun Chakraborty wore flashy silver bell bottoms and a zebra striped jacket. From then on, Bollywood changed their styles of clothing. They went from simple fashion style to starting a new bright, bold and flashy fashion trend.
Those were the days when we always see bright color Mini Skirts, polka dots tops and dresses, Puff blouses and high heels of bright color. The air accessories were also in the statement of the fashion. The bracelets, the washed jeans with acids, boy toy belts and layers of beaded necklaces.
Throughout the years, people had started wearing trainers on a regular day basis instead of wearing them for athletic wear. Piercings and tattoos also became quite popular back in the 80’s. At that time men were always seen wearing with regular tight T-Shirts like Miami Vice. While women wore off the shoulder t-shirts, bright high heels, skirts, and tip tops which they added bangs or the famous hair bump to their hairstyle. Throughout the years, people had started wearing trainers on a regular day basis instead of wearing them for athletic wear. Piercings and tattoos were seen a lot earlier at the time of 1980’s which low very poplar is. People love piercing and tattoos now days.
Now if we talk about the hairstyles and type of the haircuts were also widely popular among the different styles of fashion.
Some of the hairstyles were-
Bang Style - (Now become very famous)
The Bang Hairstyle has become very famous now days and have comeback with the fashion statement. Apart from the common people, now the hair designers and parlous are also taking interest in Bang Hairstyles. They have huge charges for the styles.
Loose Sweaters and Cardigans - (Now become very famous)
Back in the 80’s, sweaters and cardigans were worn a lot, as they are now in fashion statement. The big difference is that, the cardigans and sweaters look too loose and big which is also in fashion now a days. The out of shape sweaters and cardigans is the fashion now. And had very weird geometrical shapes on them. While now a days, we see long, spacious sweater and cardigans coming out with a variety of styles.
The Makeup
Make up is another trend that has returned. In the 80’s we saw bright, bold colors being worn by stars. For the past couple of years, designers have started experimenting with bright colors, realizing that dull, calm colors aren’t always that popular. Makeup is the another famous trend was all set in the middle
Long Pendant and Necklace
Long pendent necklaces and huge earrings were very popular trend back in the 80s, and have now become in style again. Now days, large earrings are worn with everything while long pendent necklaces are suitable for dresses. When it comes to hoop earrings, the only difference is that back in the 80’s, hoop earrings weren’t silver or gold, instead they came in a variety of colors!
One thing in fashion we all must remember is that whether the style is from the 1900’s or 1980’s, we always develop our fashion trends by looking at the past, and modifying everything for the present. As we believe “The fashion is same now and then, we need to modernize that always to invent the different fashions everyday “
Bags
The bags were also the main and most ethical part of the fashion statement apart from the accessories. The big and vogue bags were also the fashion part. Early 80’s saw a vogue for clutch handbags in many colors with matching shoes. Many of them bought copies of the quilted channel shoulder bags with golden chain bags. Bags were very famous and very compatible. And it is incomplete without a filling inside it.
The war saw the smooth contours of the 1930s fashion change to a more military look. The structure of the bags were larger, squarer, and more practical, reflecting a desire to appear self-sufficient, and which is now also in trend. As zippers, leather and mirror became scarce; designers turned to wood or plastic for frames and employed new synthetics such as rayon.
The drawstring bag came and was often homemade. Bags in Great Britain were made both to carry gas masks and to match an outfit. In France and America, as more women entered the workforce, they turned to shoulder bags (Foster 1982). After the war, the shoulder bag was relegated to country and travel features until its revival in the 1970.
The use of both fine costumes was used in day and night in the fashion. Big and most huge fashion earring several lengths across make attention to face and highlight the shoulders puff too. The stones which were used were fake and sometimes real. Sometimes diamonds, gold polished material were used to highlight the entire outfit. The women in the Dynasty wore the trimming jewelry along with the wide fusion of covetable lingerie and underwear.

The craze of Fashion in Bollywood
Industry has many faces and fashion ideas. With the Indian film industry journeying towards greater heights in cinema, the phase of 80’s has raised the glamour and fashion. Now those tips and style has become the important aspect in the fashion Industry. The transition from the eccentric 70s to the eloquent 80s was smooth and glitch free in matters related to the kind of movies we savored. But the same wasn't the fate of the fashion linkage. There are still certain names and fashion style which is still alive in the bollywood Industry.
The names and tags which were very famous were :
The early 80s was highly vety much influenced by the gangster culture from the West. The cabaret singers swaying in glittering gowns and twirling feather boas, to the men dapper in suits exchanging unambiguous briefcases and the firing of innumerable bullets following it was original to every film made then. And the attraction of this was no less. Audiences lost their hearts to Zeenat Aman's silver clad body swaying to the tunes of "Laila Main Laila" and slayed their souls for Hema Malini when she flitted around in a black number, mouthing the words of "Mere Naseeb Mein". Then there was the frenzy of fangirls for the ever dashing Feroz Khan draped in a tuxedo in Qurbani to the charming boy next door Rishi Kapoor of Karz.
The glittering gowns and Tight Fitted Suits :

The shinning Sarees and the Loose Sweaters
Romance was still high in the 80s and this particular feeling was exploited in all ways that had still remained unused by the filmmakers of the past. Foreign locations, designer sarees and soothing music was the new formula of a blockbuster. Who could forget Rekha's urban demur from Silsila to Sridevi Kapoor's willowy silhouette in Chandni drapped in chiffon sarees? And when the women gave winter a cold shoulder, the heroes rescued the season in cashmere sweaters and fur coats. From Amitabh Bachchan to Rishi Kapoor, the eyes were never lost the scene and sight.
The royal Anarkalis (The Recent fashion Statement)
Whenever the era of 80s will be remembered, its memories cannot shine through without the mention of Umrao Jaan and Disco Dancer. Where Rekha remind the tragedy of a broken heart in yards of silk pearls with chain, the disco king Mithun Chakraborty broke many a hearts through his pelvic moves in glittering silver and golden Jackets. These looks were time and again used throughout the decade, some of which matched the original grandeur while some lay forgotten.
The Silk Salwaars and the Tight Fitted Pants :
Mid 80s has been somewhat credited to have brought down the fashion quotient in Bollywood, though even if we can't fight off the title, the truth seems have come out gradually. The costumes had toned down to become dresses more wearable in real life and thus the forever running masquerade party had come to an end. Performances were given more credit and hiding behind articulation had ceased. The simple salwaar kurtas adored by Amrita Singh to the docile Bhagyashree Dassani in Maine Pyar Kiya, fashion was now for all. The men too indulged in being comfortable and the casual looks of Rishi Kapoor to the emerging heartthrobs Aamir Khan, Jackie Shroff and Salman Khan in late 80s, were a rage among the audiences.
The variant dresses and the varying denims
The indulgence in Indian wear by our heroines was noticeably one of the best fashion features of the 80s. But this did not mean that the influence of the West had dimmed. What had changed was the kind of dresses they chose. Once again comfort and subtlety was the main requirement. From sheath to cocktail and from jumpers to wraps, dresses were innumerable in all colors and sizes. Tina Munim Ambani and Dimple Kapadia were the main forerunners of bringing this style statement into Bollywood. Our heroes on the other hand took up to the rock star look with love. The rugged denims and the biker jackets had made their way into the wardrobes of our boys-next-door.
The Stylish Cuts
The clothes were not the only thing that revived to become more human than alien, the hair too were at last relieved from the eternal bondage of wigs. The long lush and shiny manes were all over the place. The sleek straight hair of Parveen Babi, the natural fall of Dimple Kadapia's brownish glory and the soft curls of young Juhi Chawla became the envy for all. To match with these beauties, men too went ahead to have a groomed head. Rishi Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan to name a few preferred to go with trimmed hair rather than anything fancy.
