Chasing butterflies …….

(A spicy hot romantic and suspense thriller)

By

Kotra Siva Rama Krishna

Sukanya as well became a lot emotional on hearing that. “Yes. Those rascals must not be left unpunished. How they did such type of a thing on an innocent and helpless woman? Did they forget that they too borne to a woman?”

“They are dogs, pigs. No. It is insulting those animals. They are innocent. These men are more nasty and menial than anything on the earth.” Susmitha almost yelled. Her anger was not subsiding at all.

“Please Susmitha. Control yourself. We shall sure see their end. I am feeling fear looking at you like this. I never have seen you in this way before.” Madhuri said to her.

With difficulty Susmitha controlled herself and she looked at Madhuri surprisingly.

“Why not you are getting any angry on them? Even after they have committed such an atrocity on you how can you remain silent like this?” she asked.

“I am angry at myself.” Madhuri burst into weeping. “I don’t know why but I am angry on myself and my helplessness.”

“Madhuri please….” Susmitha hugged her. “Don’t weep. I am for you from now on. I shall see that those bastards pay full for what they did to you. Please control yourself.”

Sukanya stood up from her chair, came near to Madhuri and put her hand on her shoulder. “It is a possible consequence in some of the rape victims. They do get angry on themselves for their helplessness. They stop feeling anything against the culprits. They need lot of psychological support afterwards.”

Susmitha nodded her head and said “Yes. It seems you are right.”

“I know about Madhuri from her childhood. I know what happened to her at her very early age itself. Very unfortunately she witnessed that her mother gang raped while she was just eight years or so old. At her thirteenth year she herself was brutally raped. It all has a lot of impact on her psyche.” Sukanya said.

Madhuri perched her head and looked into the eyes of Sukanya. There was a plea to her not to talk about those incidents.

“I have said this not to humiliate or embarrass you Madhuri. I said this to give you courage. To tell you there is no mistake on your part or your mother part at any time. To let you make a resolve not to let these bastards to go scot-free, I have said this.”

Madhuri did not talk anything but downed her head.

Sukanya put her hands around her neck and kissed on her right cheek. “First you must stop self-blaming. You don’t know the reasons why but there might be strong reasons to your mother as well to remain calm in those days suffering all that.”

“I have tried to know the reasons of my mother’s silence years back itself. But I could not get satisfying explanation. Why did not she expose my father and those bastards to the outside world? Why did not she approach any police station or something?” there was suddenly anger in the voice of Madhuri.

“I said we don’t know. You were not in her place. How she was blackmailed by those bastards we don’t know. They might have threatened her to do something nasty to you if she did not agree to that all.”

Madhuri remained silent. She was trying to understand that point. Along with pity she was feeling angry as well whenever she was thinking about her mother.

“Alright. Why did not you go to a police station and report on these bastards as soon as you could do that?” Sukanya asked her.

“I cannot say. I just wanted to come straight to Susmitha.” Closing her eyes and leaning back in the chair Madhuri said.

“I know the reason.” Sukanya said. “You thought in some ways it was justifiable. That Manohar supported you and helped you financially. He hoped that you would certainly tell him about Susmitha’s whereabouts if you came to know about that. You did not do that. So you felt guilty that you could not be helpful to him even after receiving favours like that from him. So you are remained silent.”

“You are really a psychologist.” Madhuri opened her eyes and said. “That was the reason why I did not report on them.”

“But dear you never should have been subjected to such an atrocity.” Susmitha said. “Never develop any soft feeling towards those bastards. What you are thinking that they did to you? They humiliated you in the highest offensive way possible. They hurt you deep in the heart. They knew how to make a woman suffer to her core. A rape would make her hate herself, develop deep disgust on her own persona. It is more than any physical wound.” Her voice once again became angrier.

“Susmitha is right. The first thing you need to do is stop self-blaming. As I said earlier you are blaming yourself as you could not withstand their efforts. You are blaming yourself for your helplessness. How any woman can withstand such an attempt if three brutes tried it on her so?” once again Sukanya put her right hand on Madhuri’s shoulder.

“What Sukanya said is right. I am not a psychologist but I can understand how it would be after being raped. The real soothing comes only after the bastards punished. I shall see into that and you just stay in peace.” Susmitha said.

There was silence sometime and Susmitha herself has broken it. “I have got authority on all my properties now. I shall run all my businesses myself and you are going to be with me forever.”

After saying that so, she looked into the face of Madhuri. Now her face was free of wrinkles and there was peace.

Once again silence took place there.

First night between Susmitha and Madan as well was over. To his happiness, Mamatha did not surface in Susmitha even two days passed after the marriage.

“It seems what that Mamatha’s mother said is true. That Mamatha did not come in you even for once after the marriage. Is she is still in your body?” Madan questioned Susmitha.

“I cannot say that.” Susmitha said. “Madan you have to come with me to a place.” After pausing few seconds, looking into his eyes she said.

“Where, may I know?” the seriousness in Susmitha’s voice surprised him.

“Don’t ask questions. Please come with me.” The firmness and seriousness was maintained in her voice too.

“I have no objection.” Madan said.

“We start now.” She took his right hand into her right hand and led him out of the house. He was just surprisingly watching what she was doing. Just in five minutes or so she had taken him to Mamatha’s house.

“Why do we go into her house now?” Madan asked again surprisingly.

“I said to you don’t ask questions.”

They both were inside of that house. Rajani got up from the chair in which she sat and looked at them. There was a grim expression in her face.

“I have taken Madan with me.” Susmitha said.

Rajani nodded her head and said “Go inside to that room.”

Mamatha’s photo was in its usual place but there was no garland around it and there was no kumkum also between the eyebrows. It appeared odd to him. His mind started its guessing work.

Susmitha slowly opened the doors of the room on the left side and entered into it with Madan. A tube light was making luminescent inside of the room and everything was quite clearly visible.

After entering into it, Madan looked ahead. In the immediate instant, he was shocked and his mouth dropped open. He did not know whether it was dream or reality. In fact his mind became numb and stopped working. He never had expected that he would see that there then.

In the middle of the room, sitting in a chair crossing her legs, Mamatha was looking at him straightly.

“I was not dead as you are thinking of. I am not a ghost. I am still alive. If you want, take my hand into yours and pinch it.” Mamatha stood up from the chair, came near to him and said extending her right hand to him.

Few minutes passed and Madan was slowly coming out of his shock. “I have to pinch myself not you.” Madan pinched on his hand and felt the pain. “Yes. It is not a dream. Sure you are not a devil?” looking into her eyes he asked.

Mamatha laughed and said “So you too have started believing in devils.”

“Circumstances made me believe in them. No, you and Susmitha made me believe in them.” Madan angrily said.

“Yes. I did it. I did it intentionally. I did it to make you feel bad. I did it to make you weep. And I got success.” Mamatha said. But there was no happiness in her face. It was gloomy.

“But why?” Madan asked her.

“But why?” she mocked him. “Ask that question again. But why? Why? You don’t know why?” her eyes became red with anger. “Have you even looked back after I have fallen into the river? Have you even told anyone that I fell into the river so? You could not love me, alright, but you did not take me as a human being atleast. You did not feel anything at all towards me. Moreover you have felt it as a good riddance.”

Madan held his head down. He was not able to look into her eyes.

“Why that callousness? Why you should be that cruel to me?”

Madan did not say anything. He could not perch his head up and looked into her eyes.

“You feared that I would come after you all the time pestering you to marry me.”

Still there was silence. Madan’s face hung even more down.

“It was my mistake Madan. Indeed it was my mistake. Once you made it that clear to me that you were not in love with me, I must stop loving you. But I did not do that. I have no right to force you to love me. But…..” suddenly there was a change in her voice.

“I want to make you feel sorry for the way you have left me into the river so. I want to make you feel bad for that you have not considered me even as a human being.”

Madan then dared to perch his head up and looked into her eyes. There was a change in her facial expression. The redness in her eyes was decreased.

“You may better know what happened to me after I fell into the river on that day.” She started saying.

Mamatha suddenly hugged Madan on the bridge and showered kisses all over his place even forgetting the point that anyone might come and see them there so. Madan was trying his level best to relive himself from her hold but simply it was not possible to him to do so.

“You must agree to marry me. Otherwise I am not going to leave. I don’t bother whoever come and see us here like this. I don’t bother whatever people may think on seeing us both like this here.” hugging him even more strongly and planting even more kisses on his face, she said.

Luckily there was no one else around and Madan was trying using all his force to relieve himself from her. While doing so, they both reached the railing of the bridge and with one deft and strong move he could relieve himself from her. But in that process she toppled over the railing of the bridge and fallen into the river.

She did not expect that at all and felt like that she hit a hard surface when she touched the fast flowing waters. All the thought process in her was suspended as she plunged into that cold water and even in that mind numbing stage as well she realized that she was going to die. But that revelation did not bother her at all as she shunned by Madan so and after that it had become that much clear to her that he would not care for her even a little.

She came onto the surface and went into the bottom again as she was flowing like that with the speedy water and there was not even an iota of effort on her part to save herself as she did last all the interest on her life. She just allowed herself flowing with the water so and she lost all the time sense. Then suddenly she sensed someone clutched her so strongly and took her towards the river bank putting all his effort. She opened her eyes slowly when she was laid on the bank. They were paining like hell and she drank enough water already.
