He lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, his body heavy with exhaustion and his mind filled with tension. The room was quiet, but inside him, nothing felt calm. The faint memory of the blue glow, the hospital lights, the strange pain in his chest, and the confusion of recent days kept circling in his thoughts.
He turned to his side, clenching his fingers slowly.
Maybe sleeping will help, he told himself. Maybe I just need rest.
Closing his eyes, he forced his breathing to slow. Gradually, his body relaxed, and the noise inside his head faded into silence.
Darkness took over.
But it wasn’t empty.
He found himself standing in a vast space once again—the same place from before. Beneath his feet was a smooth, glass-like surface reflecting the darkness above and below. It felt endless, as if the world itself had paused.
Then it appeared.
A soft bluish-white light floated in front of him, calm and steady.
His heart skipped.
“It’s you…” he whispered. “I remember you.”
The light shimmered gently, its glow warm rather than blinding.
“What is happening to me?” he asked. “Why is my body changing?”
For a moment, the light remained silent. Then a presence filled his mind, clear and unmistakable.
Because you are beginning to understand.
He took a step forward. “The glow… the pain… Is all of this because of you?”
The light pulsed slowly.
I am not separate from you, it replied. I am what you have always carried.
His breath caught.
“So… I can control it?” he asked, almost afraid of the answer.
The glow grew slightly brighter.
You already are, the light said. Fear made it unstable. Awareness will make it obey.
He felt something settle inside him.
“I can feel it,” he said. “The strength… my reflexes… my focus. It’s different.”
Those are only the surface, the light answered. What sleeps within you is far deeper and greater.
The glow expanded, surrounding him gently.
Your heart and your mind are rare, the light
continued. Not rare because they are powerful—but because they endured when they could have broken.
He listened without interrupting.
Where others react, you reflect. Where others lash out, you remain silent. That restraint… that awareness… is the true source of what you feel.
His chest tightened, but not in pain.
“No one else has this?” he asked quietly.
Very few, the light replied. And fewer still survive long enough to awaken it.
He swallowed. “So what do I do now?"
The light grew calm again.
You discover, it said. Many abilities rest within you
—strength, reflex, perception—but they will not reveal themselves through force.
The light paused, then added—
They awaken through control.
Before he could ask anything more, the light suddenly flared. The entire space filled with brilliant blue-white brightness.
Everything vanished.
He woke up sharply, sitting upright in bed.
The room was dark and silent.
His heart was racing, but his body felt steady—grounded.
He stood and walked toward the mirror.
His eyes glowed blue.
But this time, the glow wasn’t wild. It didn’t flicker violently like before. It was calm, steady—almost breathing with him. Slowly, the light faded, retreating back into his eyes until nothing remained.
He leaned closer to the mirror, studying himself.
A small smile formed on his face.
Whatever had awakened inside him hadn’t disappeared.
It had learned restraint.
And for the first time, he felt ready to learn too.
