Place: LA, America
I woke up from my bed and looked at the clock. It showed 11. Shit! Shit! I can't be late again. Francis will kill me! I hurriedly collected my clothes and went to shower.
Exactly after 15 minutes, I came out of the bathroom wearing my blue crop top and Denim jeans.
I looked at my phone wearing my sneakers. Crap! It ran out of its juice. Shit! I forgot to plug it in charge.
I ran out of my apartment and pressed the lift button to the ground floor. Damn it! It's taking time. So, I just took the stairs.
I finally came out of the building hopping 200 flights of stairs and started the car. I rushed the car to Arkade coffee shop.
My name is Emily, Emily Baxton. I'm a 25-year-old civil engineering graduate. I'm working for A to Z builders company for the past 3 years after completing my graduation from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
I'm originally from Chicago. But for my job I relocated to LA. My parents are still residing there. They're the most sweetest and lovable couple you can meet.
Now to the present, even though it's Sunday you may wonder why am I rushing to a simple coffee shop. Because I'm going to meet my boyfriend Francis there.
Yes, I have a boyfriend named Francis. We've been dating for the past two years. It's funny that I met him first in the weirdest place. We both met at a cemetery.
He was there for the funeral of his grandmother and I'm there for a colleague. He was pretty sad when I saw him first. So, I thought to cheer him up and started to talk with him with a pretty bad joke.
He understood that I'm trying to cheer him up and thanked me. From that moment, we got clicked. See, that's why I love talking to people. That's how you can find yourself a soulmate. Did I just say soulmate? Well...Francis is a nice guy...so maybe he is the one.
I stopped my car at the coffee shop and hopped out of the car as fast as I could. I went inside and looked for him. He was sitting in the corner with a fuming face. I ran near him and kissed his lips, "I know...baby...I'm sorry...I'm so late. You have every right to be mad".
I sat opposite him gasping for air, "You know what? I'll do anything you ask. I mean it literally anything" I winked looking at him.
He raised his head and looked at me. He's still pissed, "Do you know how many times I've waited for you like this from the beginning of this relationship?"
"I know...I know you don't have to explain. I'll try to be careful next time".
"No, you don't Emily. That's the problem. I'm waiting for you for the past two hours. We were supposed to meet at 9".
"I'm sorry...Francis...Yesterday until 2 I caught up with work..."
"At least, you've could informed me over the phone. What happened to that?" He raised his voice, "I've been trying to contact you for the past hour".
"Umm...it ran out of battery".
He let out a heavy breath and raised his hands in the air, "See, this is what I'm saying".
"Francis...I said sorry...Don't make big deal out of this".
"No, I can't take this anymore, Emily. I've had it" he shouted.
"What?"
He sighed, "Look, I'm about to say this on weekend. But now, you really pushed me out of my limits. I'm sorry...I can't do this anymore".
"What? Are you ending things with me?" I got shocked.
"I'm sorry Emily. You know that I'm a cop and I hate someone who is not punctual".
"You're breaking up with me for this? How silly reason is this?" I got angry.
"No, that's not the reason. I hate someone clumsy and God!.... How do I say this?"
"Say it!"I crossed my arms and stared at him, "That I'm childish".
"No...That's not what I meant..."
"Yeah, that's what you're mentioning...Say it! Say it! Say it!" I yelled.
"Fine, you asked for it. Yes, you're childish" he said angrily. For a few seconds, there was empty silence. He continued after that calmly, "Look, you're the sweet and kindest girl I've ever met. But...You're pretty clumsy and irresponsible. I need someone in my life more mature and responsible. I thought that with love I won't care about those things. But, no I'm not...I'm not built up like that...I'm so sorry".
I was so angry that I have to throw a hot coffee all over his face. But, the last thing I needed was drama in my life. So, I simply stood up and replied, "Last year we almost got pregnant because you screwed up the contraceptive and you're blaming me irresponsible? How irony is this? Just don't ever come before me ever Mr. So called right".
I stormed off the place without waiting for his reply.
Later that night,
Me and my friends Regina Harold, Jill Hopkins met in the bar. Regina and Jill are my best friends since my college. They stick with me through thick and thin. They're dating since high school. Jill is working at this bar pursuing her higher studies and Regina is working with me.
"What happened, I thought everything is good with Francis?" Jill asked me pouring the drink.
"Even I thought the same" I replied gulping my scotch, "But, that Moron was planning this for a long time".
"Ugh...If you were in our world. You would know you're worth" Regina winked at me.
"I officially hate men" I whined, "Why can't ever understand us?"
"Look, I'm not saying this as a consolation. But, I think it's for your good".
"He tossed away a two-year relationship like nothing. How it's for my own good?" I got pissed.
"I don't know. Maybe it's a sign that you're going to meet someone nice".
"No, I'm officially done with dating. I wanna be single again".
"Okay...okay...slow down your horses...You know that you have a big day tomorrow, right?" Regina plucked the drink out of my hands.
"Yeah...that selfish idiot didn't even care about that".
After three years of hard work. My company was ready to give me a big project.
Tomorrow, they're officially handing me a big project. I'm going to be in charge of big corporate building construction.
"Maybe...That will take my mind off this Ass. Bye, guys. Good night" I came out of the pub and headed towards my apartment.
When I reached my apartment, I got a mail about the project. It said I've got a partner assigned and it's AIDEN PARKER!
TWO DAYS AGO,
PLACE: SEATTLE
TIME: 7:30 P.M
I waited for her in the restaurant. It's been 15 minutes and still, there is no show of her. She knows how much I hate when she's late. Then, why is she doing this?
I tapped my legs nervously as time passed. Ellora is my girlfriend. We've been dating for the past one year. We met at a coffee shop.
My name is Aidan Parker, 25. Civil Engineering graduate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After completing graduation I joined A to Z Builders company. It's one of the reputed companies. Right now, I'm working at the Seattle branch.
After 3 years of hard work, they saw my work and they're ready to give me one big project. For that, I have to move to Los Angeles until the project gets over. A week before they announced it and I informed her. She's very happy for me. After that project, I'm going to ask her to move in with me.
This is the last time we're going to have dinner before I leave. So, I decided it to be special. I booked a table at her favorite restaurant and still, I'm waiting for her.
Finally, she came after 30 minutes, "Where were you Ella? I'm waiting for you past half an hour. You know I hate being late".
She kept her purse aside and seemed nervous, "I'm sorry, Aiden. I didn't know how to face it".
"What you gonna face it?"
She sighed, "I can't take it anymore, Aiden. Since, you're leaving I have to say this...I think we shouldn't see each other anymore".
"What? Why? You think long distance not gonna work...because...I...I...can..."
"No, that's not" she shook her head, "I don't wanna give you false hope...the thing is...you're so uptight...I mean...you always try to be disciplined and perfect...I want someone who is laid back and fun".
"What being responsible is a big mistake?"
"No, that's not it. Every time you just turn fun things serious. Like yesterday, with my friends, we were playing beer pong for fun. You turned that into a freaking competition. You didn't stop until you made sure you won. I don't want that in my life. You can't always win".
I can hear my heart breaking into pieces. I thought she is so understanding and she's the one for me. She proved it wrong. I couldn't even find the strength to talk to her.
"Aiden, you're the most caring person I have ever met in my life. That's the reason I fell for you in the first place. But...but...I can't live with that. Don't take this the wrong way, hope you'll understand it, bye" she left the place without even caring for my reply.
I came back home and dialed Jamie, my only best friend since high school. He's staying in LA looking after his father's business. I'm going to stay with him until this project.
He answered after a few rings, "Hey! You got everything packed, Man?"
"Yeah, did it and Ellora broke up with me".
"Man! What happened?" He sounded concerned.
I explained what she said. He replied, "I'm sorry, you okay?"
"I don't care. I'm going to concentrate on my work".
"Maybe it's the way of the universe saying someone perfect is waiting for you".
"I don't dig that crap. You are not making any sense. Right now, commitment is the last thing I need".
"Fine, whatever. I'm saying that you'll meet someone who is okay with being who you are. When you're coming here?"
"Tomorrow morning at 7, I'll board the flight".
"Tell me when you land, and I'll pick you up".
"Ok...thanks".
The next day, when I boarded the plane I got a mail saying that I'd been assigned a partner for the project and it said it was EMILY BAXTON!
