Laughter in Darkness

A suspense, romantic and psychological thriller

By

Kotra Siva Rama Krishna

“Why you both are here? Cannot we have even a little discussion peacefully without your intrusion?” looking angrily at Arjun and Madhuri, Rajesh asked them.

“The people inside that room also just felt like that and send us here. You people also do have your share.” Arjun said.

“Alright, don’t worry about them. I take them both into my room and tell them stories.” Emily got off from the chair and said. “Both of you come with me.”

Then Madhuri and Arjun just followed her on her back into that room.

“Emily is indeed a very active girl! It seems Arjun and Madhuri very much attracted towards her.” Looking at that way, Rajesh said.

“Indeed she is” Rose said. “She has lot of friends in the school also. There are no complaints from her school to me at any time. Except that psychological disorder…” she tried to say something more.

“You just forget about it Rose” Neeraja interrupted her and said. “Emily is perfect in all respects now.”

“Apart from this house I am having lands also in this village. I am having good income from agriculture also.” Rajesh said after few seconds’ pause.

“Is it is that Ratnam looking after your lands also?” Neeraja asked him.

“Yes, Ratnam himself. He is so sincere in everything. I am also helping him by providing money. Occasionally we do have phone talking and I am transferring the necessary amounts into his bank account. In the same way he also transfers the sale proceeds of our crops into my bank account.” Rajesh said and paused for a moment before saying again. “Indeed I want to do something for this village, as it is the village of my grandma herself. All these villagers are so much affectionate towards my grandma and to me also.”

“That is indeed a very good idea! Villages mostly lack in medical facilities. If there is no hospital in this village, it would be quite useful here that you set up a hospital. You yourself are a doctor.” Rose suggested to him.

“You are right. But I am already having a hospital somewhere else and it is going successfully. I don’t like closing that and opening a new hospital here. Anyhow what you have said also is true. I shall see whether I can be helpful in establishing some hospital here.” Rajesh said.

The rain was slackened and now it was only a drizzle. The three started observing the drizzle. Then Vinod suddenly came there and slumped in a chair nearby to them.

“Where you have been all this time?” looking into his face, Rajesh asked him.

“I was taking rest in the middle room upstairs till now. It seems that you three are in some discussion.” Looking into the faces of the three he asked them.

“We are thinking how it is establishing a small hospital in this village.” Rajesh said.

“It would indeed be a great idea! So far I know there is no qualified doctor in this village.” Vinod said.

“But how to do that is the question. I am already engaged in the hospital I established in the name of grandma and it has been going so nice. How can I close that and establish another hospital here?” Rajesh asked him.

“You would have opened your hospital in this village itself.” Vinod said.

“But Vinod you know very well that grandma never agreed to my coming into this village and staying near to her. How could I open a hospital in this village then?”

“You are right” Vinod nodded his head.

While Vinod and Rajesh were talking like that, Neeraja and Rose got off from their chairs and went away from that place.

Aravind and Anand remained in that room. They don’t have a mood to go downstairs even the rain slackened.

“You and my uncle have been in the middle room. What you been talked?” looking into the face of Aravind, Anand asked him.

“Not much. He started taking rest on the bed and I sat in the chair there. Suddenly I heard something from this room, came here and found you.”

After few seconds’ pause Anand got off from his chair. “I too want to go downstairs. Rain also slackened a lot.” He said.

“As you wish. But I want to stay in this room itself for sometime.” Transporting himself onto the bed there, Aravind said.

Anand nodded his head and went away from that place.

Aravind was feeling surprise thinking why the people there were subjecting to hallucinations like those. Sammera’s seeing the snake, Sunanda’s hearing her mother’s voice and later having the rape experience, Anand’s hearing that Mallika so. Whether that Rose and Neeraja were subjected to any strange experiences or not in that house he did not know. They were not that sort of people to exchange their experiences with other people easily.

Whatever may be the feelings of the other people there, he was satisfied with the séance. He never has expected that spirits do come and talk like that at all. But if whatever that grandma said was true, there was grave danger to them to stay in that house night time. The spirit of Semanthakam might try to save them but if he could not withstand the evil power of Nagaraju, Aravind did not know. Semanthakam was only an ordinary person but that Nagaraju was a warlock while he was alive!

“Why you have stopped all that?”

Aravind at once sat straight on the bed. The voice was so clear and there was no rain sound either at that time. He did not imagine like the other people there. It was for real in all respects.

It was the voice Mulki his aunt who introduced him into the shadow world. Who taught him about the bad angels and how to adore them. After her death, she never has been in contact with him. Why suddenly she was talking with him like this?

“I put all my hopes on you. I thought you do continue it. Why you have stopped that?” with the same modulation, her aunt was asking him.

“My father did not agree to it. My father did not allow me to continue it at all. So I have to stop that.” With a small voice Aravind said.

“No you are lying.” His aunt was yelling now. “You have lost all your interest in that as soon as I dead. You want a comfortable life without any botheration. You have insulted me by abandoning all the shadow world so.”

“No, no, it is not so? I have lost all the things related to the shadow world except a book. My father threw all of them away. I was helpless.” Aravind’s voice was with full of anguish.

“No you are not.” Mulki was still very much angry. “You very well know that you can contact me and take my guidance if you want. But you did not. You have settled yourself in a very comfortable life and you did not want to leave it. You betrayed me. You breached my trust. You pulverized my hopes.”

Unbearable! Very much unbearable! His aunt never talked like this when he was with her. She would never talk in this way unless she felt too much hurt. Aravind covered his face with both of his palms and started weeping.

“Mukinni is very much angry with you. She does not leave you and your family members. It was Mukinni that your wife has seen in the kitchen.”

Aravind’s heart missed a beat. Then he remembered Mukinni the female head and snake body bad angel which he adored a lot in those days. That Mukinni was very much powerful and it is angry with him! She was a very dangerous and cunning angel! The very snake that Sameera saw in the kitchen was nothing but Mukinni.

“Oh, why you are becoming like this?”

Aravind felt as if electricity was passing all over his body when he felt her right hand on his shoulder and hastily turned towards her. Neeraja stood just beside the bed and put her right and on his right shoulder.

“I came into this room five minutes back and you have been like this.” Neeraja sat on the bed making room herself on it. “What happened Aravind?”

“I am sorry” Aravind hastily wiped his tears with his right palm.

“Oh, don’t become like that.” Neeraja’s hand was still on his right shoulder and she squeezed it there. “Are not you feeling like sharing it with me?” looking intently into his face, she asked him.

“What I can share? It is something in my life that should not take place at all. I don’t want to say about it to anyone else. I did not say any of this even to my wife. I go downstairs now.” Aravind got off from the bed and Neeraja has to remove her hand from his shoulder.

Even he was in that distressing situation, Neeraja was appearing so much enthralling and attractive to him. The more surprising and shocking thing to him was there was invitation and interest in her. He was feeling fear something which should not take place would take place if he stayed there more.

“I am a psychiatrist Aravind. I can be helpful to you if you tell me your problem whereas your wife cannot. You can say the things to a psychiatrist which you cannot share with your own wife.” She got off from the bed and put her both hands on the shoulders of Aravind. “First sit yourself in this chair and then calm yourself. Tell me all about your past.”

She made sit Aravind in the nearby chair there and she also slumped in the chair which she dragged beside him

Then with a measured tone Aravind explained to her about the environment he has grown up, how he was introduced to the shadow world by his aunt Mulki, how he has to abandon all that and how now the female head snake body angel Mukinni was angry with him.

“Oh, poor dear! You are worrying this much thinking all about it?” she put her right hand around his shoulders and kissed on his right cheek.

“What, what you did?” Aravind felt as if he received an electric shock while a pleasure wave swept through all over his body.

“Just a friendly thing! Don’t take it seriously.” Neeraja laughed and said. “Anyhow you are thinking all that was real! You are thinking that there is a shadow world and you adored bad angels! That Mukinni, female headed snake body bad angel is angry with you! Absurd Aravind, just absurd.”

“You say like this for everything. I am not that much of a stupid to believe in the things blindly. I have enough proofs that the shadow world is true, those bad angels are true.” Aravind got off from the chair.

“Then show me the proofs. Tell me that your shadow world is true.” She got off from the chair, put her both hands around his neck and kissed on his right cheek again. “Come onto the bed and tell me about the proofs.” Trying to lead him towards the bed Neeraja said.

“This is the enough proof that there is paranormal here which creates bad intentions in people. I am going now and once I have gone from here think yourself whether there is paranormal or not. If there is no evil paranormal here you never would have behaved like this.” With force he released himself from her hold and stormed away from that place.
