Web of Deception

Yash shook Abhay’s hand, avoiding his gaze, then slipped away into the crowd.

Abhay stood frozen, eyes locked on his retreating figure. That man tried to assault Jeevika… How the hell is he out of a cell?

His attention was suddenly drawn elsewhere—other eyes were also following Yash. Not just one pair—several. The expressions were curious, even confused.

Abhay moved toward one of them. “Khan uncle! Hello, how are you?”

Mr. Khan smiled politely. “Fine, beta.”

“What’s going on? Why are you staring at Yash?” Abhay asked, keeping his tone casual.

Mr. Khan tapped his temple, thinking. “Yes… yes, Yash. I was trying to remember where I’d seen him before. And now I remember.”

Abhay leaned in. “Go on.”

With sudden certainty, Mr. Khan said, “He’s Jeevika’s husband.”

Abhay’s stomach tightened. “Jeevika?”

“Oh, you don’t know her?” Mr. Khan shook his head. “She came to me once to file for divorce. But her marriage certificate and all documents were fake.”

The words hit Abhay like a punch.

Sensing his reaction, Mr. Khan gave a small smile. “Anyway… this is a ceremony. You enjoy.” His smile faded quickly, and he drifted out of the party.

Abhay, however, was seething. He started toward Yash, but two or three guests intercepted him.

“Hey! Please, control yourself. This is Geeta’s ring ceremony.”

Abhay glanced at Geeta, laughing happily across the room, and forced himself to stop. He swallowed his rage, turned on his heel, and disappeared into his room.

....

Abhay was pacing outside, worry written all over his face, thinking about Jeevika. Memories of the past weighed on him, but Jeevika, inside, was focused and confident about her future.

She was busy with her studies when Rekha walked in.

“Oh, my saviour! Why aren’t you sleeping?” Rekha exclaimed. “Wow, you’re studying? You were just discharged from the hospital. You should rest.”

Jeevika smiled calmly. “I’m fine. Inspector Abhay saved me.”

Rekha’s eyes widened in surprise. “Inspector Abhay? Really?”

She leaned closer, whispering playfully, “He’s so handsome… I think I could seduce him and marry him.”

Jeevika chuckled softly, shaking her head.

Rekha leaned in again, teasing, “Do you… love him?”

Jeevika blinked, startled. “Just… shut up!”

“Okay, okay,” Rekha laughed. “Then I can propose to him myself.”

Jeevika grinned. “Alright, mam, your future plan is sorted. Can I get back to studying now?”

Rekha’s tone softened, sincere this time. “Jeevu, you saved my life, and he saved yours. I’m really grateful to both of you.”

They hugged tightly. After Rekha left, Jeevika lay back and thought about Abhay, a gentle smile on her face. Closing her books, she drifted off to sleep.

......

The next day, Jeevika checked her mail and saw an offer from a reputed company. A bright smile spread across her face—she was overjoyed. Quickly, she got ready for her first day at work.

She reached the bus stop, knowing the office was a little far. During the interview, she answered all questions confidently, except for one or two. Despite that, she left the office feeling proud and happy.

On her way back, while traveling on the bus, her eyes caught a police jeep. She smiled, hoping it might be Abhay, but the officer inside wasn’t him. She whispered to herself, “I wish today we meet. I’m happy and not in trouble.”

Soon, she realized she had taken the wrong bus. She got down near a park where children were playing, their laughter echoing around. She scanned the area with a gentle smile when suddenly, her eyes locked on a familiar face.

“Kamal!” she exclaimed, running toward him. But when she reached the spot, no one was there. She frowned. Was it really Kamal, the lawyer from my fake marriage?

Upset, she continued walking, only to notice him hidden behind a large tree, catching his breath.

Nearby, Geeta called out to Rakesh. “Rakesh, why are you hiding?”

Rakesh forced a fake smile. “Nothing.”

“Let’s go home,” Geeta said, pulling him along.

.....

Jeevika ran toward an auto and stopped abruptly. She noticed a lawyer nearby.

“I want to file a complaint against my fake marriage,” she said firmly. “I saw that lawyer, Kamal, who organized our fake marriage. I’m sure I’m not the only girl trapped in their scheme.”

A calm, confident voice suddenly reached her ears. “A wise decision.”

Jeevika looked up and froze in surprise.

“Inspector Singh?” she whispered, her heart skipping a beat.

......

1. Will Jeevika’s bold step to expose the fake marriage racket finally bring her justice—or push her into even greater danger?

2. How long can Abhay suppress his fury against Yash before truth and revenge explode?

3. Is Inspector Singh a true ally for Jeevika, or another twist in the web of deception around her?
