Laughter in Darkness

A suspense, romantic and psychological thriller

By

Kotra Siva Rama Krishna

“Was that, was that so?” Neeraja’s voice shivered while saying that. She has expected that but could not remain without becoming emotional once heard the same from him so.

“It was exactly so.” Vinod nodded his head. “It would be indeed painful to you if I say what have gone in between her and me Neeraja.  That was why I never preferred to talk about that with you even I was that much intimated with you.”

“But…but I want to know about it. I want to know what my mother has shared with you.” Neeraja’s voice shivered again while saying that. “Please tell me.”

“She loved her husband. She has lot of love and affection on him. She always worried why she was becoming mad like that. She did not know why she was becoming mad so. She was so desperate to be cured of it. Her intention was so great to become normal again. But dear..” Vinod paused a moment and said gain. “Her madness was even more great. Neither she nor we could win over that.”

“It has not started with her sir. Quite unfortunately it was for generations in her family. Her mother was so mad that she…” Neeraja tried to say something more.

“I know about it. She said about that to me. Because of her sheer madness, her mother killed her own daughter, that is, your aunt, sister of your mother.” Vinod said. “But she loved her mother as much as you do love her. I must say, despite her madness, your mother is a great lady. While she was sane, she thought only about you and your dad.”

“There is no mistake whatsoever in her sir. She told about her madness to my father in before marriage itself. My father married her knowing about her madness fully.” Neeraja did not know that her eyes became wet and tears were flowing down on her cheeks.

“She felt all the time only one fear. That is; you may also become mad like her. She felt so much of fear that you are also inherently mad just like her. It is indeed very fortunate that you are perfect in all respects.” Vinod said.

Neeraja did not say anything at all. In fact she did not know what to say. She still could remember how much she has suffered because of her mother’s madness. Her father suffered even more to her because of her mother’s madness. But neither she nor her father ever felt angry towards her mother. They both felt only love and affection always towards her.

“Your father is indeed a very great person Neeraja. In fact I never have seen a person like him before. Even in such trying situations also, he never has lost his patience. He never got angry with your mother. You are indeed very lucky that you got parents like them.”

“I must agree with what you have said.” wiping the tears on her cheeks with her right palm, Neeraja said.

“The other thing she was very much obsessed was the spirits in that village. Why it was so I cannot understand at all. She often used to say that village was full of spirits and they were going to kill all of them. She said that those spirits were stationed in your house and the house opposite to yours. Many a time I have tried to disillusion her but I could not. Quite unfortunately she became completely mad and has to be shifted into Wild ward. There Rose looked after her.” Vinod said.

“Rose treated her in the best way possible.” Neeraja said. “She felt so much desperate to make my mother normal but she could not. She became completely upset when my mother died like that.”

“So far I have heard, Rose has to agree defeat only in few cases and your mom’s case is one of them. As per my information, she is the best psychiatrist in the whole country.” Vinod said.

“You are right. I also have heard about her so.” Neeraja nodded her head.

“Whether you do know or not, I don’t know but there is a peculiar thing to say about that Rose.” After few seconds’ pause Vinod said.

“Tell me what it is?” momentarily forgetting about her distress and looking curiously into the face of Vinod, Neeraja asked him.

“Her husband was a patient in Black Ant Mental Care before her marriage with him. That means Williams, a very wealthy person, suddenly became mad seeing something odd in their old palace. Then he has been put in the Black Ant Mental Care and he was entrusted to Rose. Rose treated him in the best way possible and made him normal. During that process, Rose and Williams fall in love and became wife and husband later on.” Vinod said.

“Really, really very much surprising! I don’t know about this information at all.” with a surprising expression in her face, Neeraja said.

“Then please don’t mention it at Rose. She may not feel very much good if she knows that you knew about it from me.” Looking cautiously into the face of Neeraja, Vinod said.

“Alright, I remember this.” Neeraja nodded her head and said.

Then Neeraja and Vinod talked some more time about his treatment of her mother in Black Ant Mental Care.

“Thank you very much sir. I came to know lot many things about my mother on this day.” Neeraja got off from the chair and said. “Please take rest. I have disturbed you.” After saying that she went out from that room.

“Whatever may be the other people opinion that was the best entertainment I can say.” Anand said. “I did not think that séance would work like that at all.”

“But it has been decided as just some psychological disturbance in the people by those famous psychiatrists.” Aravind said with despair in his voice.

At that time only Anand and Aravind were in the upstairs middle room.

“For the present is it is not the best thing you say. If they think that it was really grandmother, my mother in law talked, how would be their mental condition now? That Rose and Neeraja indeed did a very good thing by convincing them it was just psychological phenomena in them but not true.” Anand said.

“You are absolutely right.” Aravind nodded his head. “I did not expect that at all in such a way. In fact I have not expected any spirit to contact us like that. But it turned out to be so.”

“A grand success in my opinion.” Anand said. “We could communicate with those spirits like that.”

“Are you really thinking that we have communicated with the spirits?” knitting his brows together, Aravind asked him.

“What else? Even hundred psychiatrists tell me it was just our imagination or something like that, I hundred percent say we really communicated with the spirits. You have such knowledge and experience in paranormal, cannot you see that much?”

Aravind hissed out heavily “May be you are right.” He said. “If it is so it would be really very much dangerous to us to stay her for the night.”

Anand remained silent. They both were side by side in the chairs in the upstairs middle room.

“Are not you thinking like that? Can we pass our time safely here? In my opinion spirits’ strength becomes a lot in night times.” Aravind said again.

“Can you make the people here to leave this house now? Especially that Rose and Neeraja.” Anand asked.

“You are right. My father in law very much obsessed with this house. That Rose and Neeraja don’t believe in spirits at all. We have to try a lot to convince Sunanda and Sameera also  to leave this house immediately now.” Thinking deeply Aravind said.

Anand was about to say something but then Sunanda entered into that room.

“It seems that you both are once again in a serious discussion.” Getting herself onto the bed there Sunanda said.

“What else is there to do?” Anand said. “It seems that you have come here with an intention to take rest on the bed.”

“Your guessing power has become strong! Absolutely you are right.” Sunanda laughed loud and said. “But I have no objection whatsoever if you both stay in this room itself.”

“I have no intention to stay here. I go down and see what my son is doing. By the time I was coming here, he was eating my wife’s mind.” Aravind said.

“He completed that and started eating his grandparents’ minds. They both have been struggling to manage with him.” Sunanda said.

“He might have completed that by now. He needs something new to start.” Going away from that place Aravind said.

“Our daughter is safe with dad downstairs. Don’t worry about her.” Once again yawning heavily Sunanda said. “Anyhow I want to take rest now.”

“I have no objection. And your dad cannot be safe much long with our daughter there. I have to go.” Anand got off from the chair.

“As you wish” Sunanda closed her eyes and yawned once again.

“But you remember you have the rape experience when you visited this house last time exactly at this time in this room.”

“Oh, that was just my imagination. Nothing like that happens to me again. Don’t worry.” Slipping herself into sleep, Sunanda said.

Once again looked at his wife from top to bottom, Anand went out from that room.

“You are really very much courageous, I appreciate.”

Sunanda looked with wide opened eyes towards that ghostly creature with wide opened eyes. “You were quite delicious to me last time. I am just waiting for an opportunity to get you all alone.”

Sunanda’s mouth became bone dry. She intended to yell but she could not open her mouth at all.

“You have not changed even a little. You are just the same now also.”

That creature slowly came near to Sunanda and put its both hands on her shoulders. Sunanda understood what was going to happen to her and what happened to her the last time in that room. While she was looking with unblinking eyes, that ghostly creature occupied her slowly. Then to her surprise she found herself completely naked. How and when her dress was removed from her body she could not understand.

While that atrocity was happening on her body so, Sunanda remembered the incident happened her on the last time visit to this place. It was as bad and real as it was at that time. She blamed herself as she did not care even Anand reminded about it to her. Her body was with full of pain while it was enjoying her with a demonic ferocity. Sunanda could not know how much of time has passed but suddenly found that devil disappeared from her body and she was no more feeling it. Then she became completely free and started yelling as loudly as possible. Her voice was that much loud and it reached every nook and corner of the house and fetched everyone into that room without any delay. Tanuja indeed has to put effort to know what happened from Sunanda.

“That was why I reminded you about your last time experience. You did not listen to me at all.” putting his right hand around her shoulders, Anand said after Sunanda completed her saying.

“You said it, I did not care.” Sunanda hissed out heavily. “My god! Why you are all here like this? There is no clothing on my body.” Remembering her naked body, Sunanda said hastily.

“Just look at yourself. You never have been dressed up this much properly before.” Sameera laughed and said.
