Fruit of Hard Work

This story, Fruit of Hard Work, is written by Ali Waris Alam, a 10-year-old student with a creative imagination and a strong sense of values. Through simple daily life experiences, Ali enjoys writing meaningful stories that teach important life lessons. He believes that hard work, patience, and honesty always lead to success. This story reflects his thoughts and observations beautifully.

One day, my father and I went to fetch water from a nearby handpump in our village. There were two handpumps — one was closer to our home, and the other was a little farther away. Both handpumps worked, but in different ways. The closer one had very little water, but it came out quickly. The farther one had more water, but it took a longer time to fill even a single bucket.

Because we didn’t want to waste too much time, we usually chose the closer handpump. Even though it had less water, we could manage if we worked fast. So, as usual, we started filling our buckets there.

While we were busy, an old woman from the village came to fetch water as well. She was known to be greedy and impatient. She went to the second handpump but found that it was taking time. Instead of waiting and putting in the effort, she noticed that water was coming out quickly from the handpump we were using.

She angrily walked over and started using our handpump. But we had already used most of the water, and only a little bit was left. At that moment, my father and I had gone to bring another bucket. By the time we returned, the old lady had finished the last of the water from that pump. Unfortunately for her, it wasn't enough to fill even one full bucket. When she realized that the water was finished, she became very angry and started shouting.

Instead of arguing with her, my father and I quietly went to the second handpump. We knew it would take more time and effort, but it was our only option. We patiently pumped water for a long time. Slowly but surely, we filled all our buckets. Our hard work and patience paid off.

Meanwhile, the old woman didn’t want to put in any effort. She waited and waited near the first handpump, hoping that water would come again. But it didn’t. In the end, she got no water at all.

This incident taught me a valuable lesson. In life, many people want quick results without putting in the work. But success doesn’t come easily. It requires effort, patience, and dedication. If you’re willing to work hard, even in difficult situations, you will always find a way to succeed. But if you keep looking for shortcuts, you may end up with nothing — just like the old lady.

The moral of the story is simple: Hard work always bears fruit. No matter how many people try to discourage you or change your path, stay focused and do your part with honesty. The results may take time, but they will surely come.
