Evening at the Khanna Mansion
The soft orange glow of the setting sun filtered through the large windows of the Khanna mansion. Mr. Khanna sat in his armchair, engrossed in his evening newspaper, while Amrita, his wife, was arranging flowers in a vase near the dining table. Aarushi, as usual, was lounging on the couch, her legs propped up on the armrest, scrolling through her phone and giggling at random memes.
Rahul entered the living room, his expression calm but with a hint of something unspoken. Aarushi noticed immediately.
Aarushi: “Bhai, why do you look like a mystery waiting to be solved? Spill it! Is it some big business news, or...” (she gasps dramatically) “Wait! Are you finally going to tell us you’re in love?”
Rahul gave her a knowing smirk, which made Aarushi sit up straight in excitement.
Amrita: (looking up from the flowers) “Rahul, is Aarushi right? Do you have something to share with us?”
Mr. Khanna: (setting his newspaper down) “Beta, don’t keep us waiting. What’s on your mind?”
Rahul took a deep breath and sat down on the couch, glancing at each of them.
Rahul: “Actually, yes, there is something I want to share. It’s about... someone special.”
Aarushi clapped her hands together, almost jumping in excitement.
Aarushi: “Oh my God! Bhai! Who is she? What’s her name? What does she do? Is she pretty? Is she taller than me?”
Amrita: (laughing softly) “Aarushi, calm down. Let your brother speak. Rahul, go on, beta.”
Rahul smiled, leaning forward slightly.
Rahul: “Her name is Ananya. We met a few months ago through work. She’s smart, kind, and incredibly understanding. She’s everything I could ask for in a partner.”
Amrita’s eyes softened, and a smile spread across her face.
Amrita: “Ananya... such a beautiful name. Tell me more about her, Rahul. What does she do? Where’s she from?”
Rahul: “She’s a software engineer working for a reputed firm. She’s dedicated to her career but also knows how to enjoy life. She has this way of making everything feel... lighter, simpler. I’ve never met anyone like her.”
Mr. Khanna: “It sounds like she’s a good match for you, Rahul. Does she know about our family?”
Rahul: “Yes, Dad. She knows everything – about you, Mom, and even Aarushi’s Netflix obsession.”
Aarushi: (grinning) “Excuse me, it’s not an obsession. It’s called modern entertainment.”
Rahul chuckled, shaking his head.
Amrita: “Beta, I’m so happy for you. It’s not easy finding someone who understands your world, especially with all the responsibilities you carry. When do we get to meet her?”
Rahul: “I wanted to make sure I told you all first. Now that you know, I think it’s time we plan something soon. She’s looking forward to meeting you too.”
Aarushi: (leaning closer) “Does she know she’s marrying into the Khanna family? I hope you’ve warned her about me!”
Rahul: (smirking) “I might’ve mentioned my dramatic little sister once or twice.”
Aarushi: “Once or twice?! Bhai, I’m the star of this family. She’ll know that soon enough.”
Mr. Khanna: (chuckling) “Rahul, I trust your judgment. If you believe Ananya is the right person for you, you have my full support.”
Amrita: (placing her hand on Rahul’s) “Beta, you’ve made us proud in so many ways. Seeing you happy is all we want. Let’s arrange a dinner soon so we can meet her properly.”
Aarushi: “And don’t worry, Bhai, I’ll only ask her... maybe 50 questions. Tops!”
Rahul: “Aarushi, just promise me you won’t scare her off before we even start.”
The room filled with laughter, and the conversation continued as the family discussed potential dates and plans to meet Ananya. Amrita started making a mental list of dishes to cook, while Aarushi brainstormed playful ways to shout my “hone wali bhabhi.”
Dinner Time at the Khanna Mansion
The Khanna family gathered around their grand dining table, where a delicious spread of Amrita’s finest recipes awaited them. Rahul sat at the head of the table, his usual composed demeanor intact, though he knew he wasn’t getting out of dinner without answering a barrage of questions from his overly curious family. Aarushi, beautiful and radiant in her casual pastel outfit, sat beside Amrita, sipping on her favorite lemonade.
Amrita: (placing a bowl of dal in front of Rahul) “Beta, I still can’t believe you didn’t tell us about Ananya earlier. How long has this been going on?”
Rahul: (with a small smile) “Not too long, Mom. I wanted to be sure about everything before I introduced her to you.”
Amrita: (raising an eyebrow) “And now that you’re sure, when are you planning to make it official? You know how these things work in our family—big functions, long guest lists. It’s no small affair.”
Rahul: (smirking) “Mom, we’ll get there, step by step. Let’s focus on the first meeting first, okay?”
Aarushi: (teasing) “Oh, come on, Bhai! You’re a top businessman now, right? You plan everything to perfection. Don’t tell me you don’t already have the whole wedding spreadsheet ready!”
Rahul laughed softly, shaking his head.
Rahul: “Spreadsheet? No. But I’m starting to think I should hire a planner just to deal with you, Aarushi.”
Aarushi: (pretending to be offended) “Excuse me! I am the life of this family. Ananya will need me to keep things fun around here.”
Amrita: (grinning) “That’s true. Aarushi can scare away all the boring people. But Rahul, tell me more about Ananya. Does she cook? What’s her family like? Does she follow any traditions?”
Rahul: (eating calmly) “Mom, she’s perfect. She loves cooking, but more than that, she’s just a good person. She understands our family values, and I’m sure you’ll love her as much as I do.”
Aarushi: (leaning closer, playful grin on her face) “And what about her favorite dish? Bhai, don’t tell me she likes simple khichdi. Please, no boring food in this house.”
Rahul: (chuckling) “She’s not boring, Aarushi. She’s actually a fan of spicy food. So you better be ready for some fiery competition in the kitchen.”
Mr. Khanna: (smiling softly) “As long as she makes you happy, Rahul, that’s all that matters. But you’ll need to balance everything well. Being the head of the company is no small responsibility.”
Rahul: (nodding) “I know, Dad. The company is important, but so is my personal life. I’ll make it work.”
Amrita: (pointing her spoon at Rahul) “That reminds me, Rahul. What about work? You barely took a break today. I saw you rushing from one meeting to another. How do you manage it all?”
Rahul: (sighing softly) “It’s all about priorities, Mom. Today was about finalizing a new partnership and preparing for tomorrow’s investor meeting. The business has grown, and with it, so have the challenges. But I’ve got a great team.”
Aarushi: (grinning) “Oh yes, Bhai, the great team that probably sends you 100 emails an hour. Admit it, you can’t survive without your phone or laptop.”
Rahul: (raising an eyebrow) “And you can survive without Netflix? Let’s not even start, Aarushi.”
The table burst into laughter as Aarushi stuck her tongue out at her brother.
Amrita: (shaking her head with a smile) “Both of you, stop fighting like kids. Rahul, make sure you’re not overworking yourself. You’ve done so much already. It’s okay to take a break sometimes.”
Rahul: (smiling softly) “I know, Mom. Don’t worry, I’ve got it.
As the dinner came to an end, Amrita placed her hand on Rahul’s shoulder.
Amrita: “Beta, I’m so proud of you. You’ve built so much for yourself, and now you’ve found someone who makes you happy. That’s all a mother could ask for.”
Rahul: (with a warm smile) “Thank you, Mom. It means a lot to me.”
