Venom: The Last Dance has been in production for some time and now has a release date set for October of this year. There's always room for this to change, especially if reshoots are put in place as a reaction to the performance of Madame Web. But as of this writing, October is still the intended plan. The movie, of course, sees the return of Tom Hardy in the titular role. The film will also feature Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Clark Backo as part of the ensemble, although none of their characters have been confirmed. The picture has been written by Kelly Marcel who will also be directing, and Tom Hardy had a hand in crafting the story. Plot details are thin on the ground as of right now, but there's no doubt that some of the conflicts of Venom: Let There Be Carnage will be brought into play. Expect to see Stephen Graham's Patrick Mulligan transform into Toxin for example, after his own run-in with the Symbiotes.
Venom 3 has been given a new title in the form of Venom: The Last Dance, which may hint toward how the film is going to play out. It seems to imply that the franchise is coming to an end for now, and could even suggest that Eddie Brock will be stepping down as Venom, perhaps to pass the mantle to someone new as has happened in the comics. The title could also mean that a familiar foe returns one final time for a last confrontation. With Carnage set up as the main villain of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, it's plausible that the red Symbiote finds a way to return. The logo for Venom: The Last Dance has also been released and features a red 3. This could nod back to either Carnage or Toxin's involvement, both of whom boast a red color palette in the comics. The title could even mean that this is the last time Venom features in this particular universe, as bigger things might be in store for the lethal defender.

Spider-Man 4, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse & Sony spinoffs could feature Venom in the future.
Sony's slate for the next few years is packed full of big projects. Work is underway on Spider-Man 4, and Kraven the Hunter continues to keep its August 30th release date. Elsewhere, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is still in development and there are sure to be other projects still going through the early stages of development. There were rumors of a female-led live-action Spider-Woman movie for example, and add this to projects like Silk, Spider-Man: Noir, and a whole host of other potential properties, and it's clear that Sony really is throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. This is an important era for Sony, and how well Venom: The Last Dance performs will be critical to their plans going forward. Venom may well factor into those strategies long-term, especially now that his place in the Multiverse has been established.
Venom: The Last Dance's recent set pictures have indicated that there may be other connections to Spider-Man: No Way Home in the sequel and that this could, in turn, keep the concept of Venom's reality hopping alive in the minds of audiences. With so many Sony projects on the way, an ambition to build out teams like the Sinister Six, and an animated universe to explore in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, it may well be that Eddie Brock becomes a more important figure throughout all known realities. One day, audiences would love to see Venom and Spider-Man battle it out after all, and although the groundwork has been set for that to perhaps occur, there are still a lot of pieces that must be moved into place before that can happen. Venom: The Last Dance is clearly intended to be the end of an era for the Symbiote superhero, but that doesn't mean the character is calling it quits for good. Sony is going to keep pushing toward its goal of having a Marvel Cinematic Universe-style landscape full of Spider-Man characters, and Venom seems to be a critical part of that plan. Venom: The Last Dance may also act as a new beginning, therefore setting the stage for all of the absurd adventures across the Multiverse that Brock may be about to embark on.

It’s a big year for Sony's Spider-Man-adjacent comic book universe. The year started with Madame Web connecting them all (if not at the box office, where it's yet to reach the $100 million mark worldwide) – and this summer, we’ll see Aaron Taylor-Johnson make his debut as the title character of J.C. Chandor’s Kraven The Hunter. And beyond that, there’s a third film to come from the ‘SPUMC’ (as it was once known) in 2024 – Tom Hardy’s third outing as Venom. Now, some fresh details have emerged about what’s in store.
The film has received the official title Venom: The Last Dance – a title that indicates a possible trilogy-capping final chapter. Or, perhaps, a Magic Mike-esque bout of male stripping. Perhaps even both. The film – both written and directed by Kelly Marcel, who co-wrote on Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage – also has a new release date, set to hit screens on 25 October. The film, as previously reported, also sees Juno Temple, Clark Backo and Chiwetel Ejiofor entering the fray – the latter most likely not playing his Doctor Strange villain Mordo.
It remains to be seen how The Last Dance (wait, will there be a Julia Stiles hip-hop dance sequence?) might address Eddie Brock’s brief appearance in the MCU. At the end of Let There Be Carnage, he was blasted into the main Marvel universe thanks to Doctor Strange’s spell in No Way Home, before being swiftly zapped back to the Sony-verse again come the end credits. It was such a fleeting trip, it could be glossed over entirely. We’ll find out for sure this October.

Hardy revealed in August 2018 that he was signed on to appear in a third Venom film, and development had begun by December 2021, after the second film was released. Star Tom Hardy stated in August 2018 that he had signed on to star in three Venom films. In September 2021, Hardy noted that the producers would have to continue to develop Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) in future films but said they were also interested in crossing over with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) more. Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) director Andy Serkis expressed interest in returning to direct another Venom film, and felt there was more to explore with Venom in future films before the character could meet Spider-Man in a future crossover film, including further exploration of the Ravencroft Institute and other potential villains being held there. In October, Tom Holland said he and producer Amy Pascal had discussed him potentially reprising his MCU role as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in future Venom sequels, after he made a cameo appearance in Let There Be Carnage via footage from the MCU film Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). That December, Pascal said they were in the "planning stages" of Venom 3.
Sony Pictures confirmed the film was in development at CinemaCon in April 2022. In June, Hardy revealed that Kelly Marcel was writing the screenplay after previously working on the prior Venom films and that he was co-writing the story with her. Hardy was set to be paid $20 million for his involvement. Serkis was unable to return as director due to his commitments to Animal Farm, which he had delayed to work on Let There Be Carnage, and Marcel signed on in October to make her directorial debut with the film, which was expected to conclude the Venom trilogy. She was also set to produce the film alongside Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Pascal, Hutch Parker, and Hardy, all doing so through their respective production companies Arad Productions, Matt Tolmach Productions, Pascal Pictures, Hutch Parker Entertainment, and Hardy, Son & Baker. Columbia Pictures also produces in association with Marvel Entertainment.
Pre-production
Hardy revealed in February 2023 that pre-production work had begun. Juno Temple entered negotiations to join the cast in an undisclosed "lead role" in April. The next month, filming was expected to begin in June in London, and Chiwetel Ejiofor joined the cast along with Temple. In June, the film was set for release in October 2024.
Filming
Principal photography began on June 26, 2023, at Los Mateos in Cartagena, Spain, as well as at the Calblanque Regional Park, under the working title Orwell. Fabian Wagner serves as the cinematographer after previously serving as an additional cinematographer on Let There Be Carnage. The start of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike in mid-July 2023 resulted in filming being halted. Later that month, the film was set to release on July 12, 2024. When the actors' strike ended in early November 2023, Sony delayed the film to release on November 8, 2024, filling the November 2024 date that the studio had previously reserved for an untitled Marvel film. Production was preparing to resume at that time. Filming resumed on November 16. In February 2024, Clark Backo joined the cast in an undisclosed role, and Temple said at the end of the month that filming was nearly completed. The following month, the film was titled Venom: The Last Dance and its release date was moved forward to October 25, 2024.
