Unrequited or One Sided Love or unilateral love as you may call it is the type of love where you love someone deeply but your beloved / lover is not reciprocating or is unable to understand your love . He or she is not aware how much romantically and emotionally you are attached to him / her or in most simple words you are not getting in return love for your love . He or she is not interested in you .


According to Roy F Baumeister , a noted American Psychologist , what makes you desirable is a complex and a highly personal mixture of qualities and traits . You may love someone intensely because of physical beauty or intelligence or other qualities . Opposite sex does attract each other but it is almost impossible to be in

synchronisation without matching of other moral values .


There are different types of Unrequited Love


Your Crush for Someone - You may have crush for someone from school days but he or she might not be even aware of it or even if he / she knows it , may not be interested in you .


Already in Relationship - Both of you love each other as a good friend and at the same time both are in love with another person . Both are deeply involved in your works and not aware of other’s emotional attachment with you .


Love with Celebrity - You may have love for a celebrity or a famous sports person .

You might have his / her several photos and downloads in your cell phone or computers . But the celebrity might have thousands of followers and he or she could not have even notice you nor will ever do so . You are also aware of it but still your attraction towards him / her persists .


Unable to Express Your Love - It may happen that you love her or him but cannot express your love due to some fear or socioeconomic causes like cast , religion , richness or poverty . But your love remains unilateral .


Post Breakup Love - Both of you in love at some point of time but there was a breakup due to some reason. But still you might be attracted to him / her while she or he is no more in your life .

When she is eventually hanged , Quasimodo kills the priest who betrayed Esmeralda . Then he lies with her dead body until he too dies of starvation .

Advantages of Unrequited Love


Advantages of Unrequited Love - This is an unselfish love and it may persist . There might be a situation in future when the rejection has to repent for not reciprocating your love and you will be psychologically winner . Secondly you are not going to carry a burden of responsibilities of mutual relationship with her / him There is a feeling of advantage of Unrequited Love , but it is short lived and will be outweighed by disadvantages .


Disadvantages of Unrequited Love


Having your love unreturned is the worst experience .When your love is not reciprocated , naturally you feel dejected and sad . There may be a feeling of rejection . This will result in broken heart , boredom , depression , mood swings , low self esteem , anxiety , frustration and may even lead to suicidal trend .In future you may not like to have love for anyone


Bottomline - You can’t force someone to love you . Usually Unrequited Love happens with most of us in our lives at some point of time .
