In Chapter 2, titled "The Tug Begins," the narrator starts their 11th-grade science journey at a new school with friends Shayan and Sofiya, as their previous school did not offer this branch. The narrator expresses a desire for their friend Zara to join them, but she is on the waiting list for admission. The group is divided into different classes, and the narrator is upset to find that Sofiya and Shayan are in the same class while they are in another division. The narrator struggles with jealousy and painful memories of a night when they saw Shayan and Sofiya together. Despite having a new phone, the narrator has cut off contact with Shayan after that night, ignoring his messages and calls. While away in Bombay with family, the narrator receives a message from Shayan expressing how much he misses them. Although the message stirs some feelings, the narrator decides to ignore him, still haunted by the past. On the first day of school, Shayan tries to approach the narrator, but they avoid him due to unresolved feelings. The narrator feels lonely without Zara and is frustrated that Shayan is always with Sofiya. During break time, the narrator spots a handsome guy arriving in a black Honda City, capturing their attention and momentarily distracting them from their troubles with Shayan and Sofiya.
