The story revolves around a king who is well-loved by his subjects but is deeply troubled by the obesity of his only daughter, Princess Roopwanti. Despite his wealth and efforts to seek help from various healers, none have succeeded in helping her lose weight, which prevents her from finding a suitor. In a desperate attempt to solve the problem, the king calls a meeting with his ministers and decides to offer a grand reward: half of the kingdom, along with riches and the hand of his daughter in marriage, to anyone who can successfully slim the princess. An announcement is made throughout the kingdom, but many who try fail, resulting in their imprisonment. Eventually, a handsome young man appears at the court, offering to treat the princess under the condition that he be given one month of solitude with her and that no one else may see her during this time. The king agrees, warning the young man of severe consequences if he fails. The young man accepts the challenge, and a separate palace is prepared for the treatment. The story sets the stage for the young man's quest to help the princess.
