Amdavad, known for its vibrant business and food culture, is home to unique snacks rarely found elsewhere. One such delicacy is Cholafali, a snack similar to Sakkarpara but made from a mix of gram, urad, and mung flour. Cholafali is typically enjoyed with a spicy green chilli chutney and is characterized by its fluffy texture, achieved through a specific preparation method that involves deep frying thin strips of dough. The origins of Cholafali are tied to the Nagar community in Gujarat, with a story of accidental invention by a lady Nagar around 75 years ago. It has since become a popular snack, especially during festivals like Makar Sankranti and Dussehra, often enjoyed alongside Jalebi. Households also prepare Cholafali during Diwali to impress guests, and it is a favored evening snack. Another beloved Amdavadi dish is Dalwada, crispy deep-fried balls made from mung dal mixed with spices and fried onions, known for their enticing aroma. Both Cholafali and Dalwada are integral to Amdavad's culinary identity.
