Astronomers have identified interplanetary dust, known as zodiacal dust, which originates from interstellar dust and comets within our solar system. This dust creates luminescence observable in the ecliptic plane, where the original accretion disk existed. Interplanetary dust particles are typically smaller than 100 mm, with larger objects categorized as meteoroids. Despite the Sun's solar wind persisting for over 4 billion years, dust continues to inhabit interplanetary space, accumulating from the remnants of the original nebula and ongoing contributions from comets and interstellar sources. The solar wind alone is insufficient to clear this dust, which remains in a delicate balance with the Sun's gravitational pull and interacts with planetary orbits. Earth captures approximately 2,900 tons of this dust daily, leading to the potential accumulation of a meter-thick layer of interplanetary dust if it were not destroyed. Additionally, the dynamics of interplanetary dust are influenced by several forces, including radiation pressure from the Sun, which affects the dust's movement and can be observed in the tails of comets.
