Wasim, a 14-year-old boy, is the caretaker of his family, which includes his younger brother Tamim, his mother Karima, who suffers from asthma, and his 4-year-old sister Wasima. They live in a poor, muddy home in a village. Karima, unable to work due to her illness, faces accusations of theft when jewelry goes missing from a neighbor's house. After being beaten and ostracized by the community, she can no longer find work, leaving Wasim as the sole provider. He struggles to support his family by doing odd jobs. One day, after completing a job for a man named Mula Zalmay, Wasim is brutally beaten when he asks for payment. Mula, a terrorist, kidnaps Wasim, and he is never seen again. In a parallel story, 15-year-old Baktaash, who is passionate about education, faces challenges at home with his father, a Mula, who confiscates his writing materials. During the Taliban's reign, Baktaash witnesses a robbery at a mosque where he is present. When the robber attacks the Muezzin, Baktaash is mistakenly arrested for the crime after being found with a bloody dagger at the scene. He spends a year in jail, where he meets a person named Ka.
