The story revolves around Sukanya, a princess whose playful curiosity leads her to disturb a meditating sage, Chyavana Rishi, by poking at fireflies in an anthill. Unbeknownst to her, her actions cause the sage great pain, resulting in a curse upon her father's kingdom. To appease the sage, King Sharyati agrees to marry off his daughter to the old and decrepit sage, sacrificing her happiness for the sake of his duties. Sukanya's life transforms into one of monotony and despair as she cares for her husband, who is lost in his penance, leaving her yearning for love and connection. One day, while bathing in a river, Sukanya encounters the Ashvin Kumars, twin gods who offer her a chance at a new life by proposing marriage. This encounter sparks a glimmer of hope and excitement in her otherwise dreary existence.
