Their happiness is shattered when Indumati dies suddenly after being startled by a flower that falls from the sky. Aja, devastated by her loss, dies soon after. This narrative highlights a rare theme in Indian mythology where a man grieves for his wife, contrasting with the more common portrayal of women mourning their absent husbands. Kalidasa emphasizes the emotions of longing and loss, which he also explores in his other work, "Megha-dutam." The story illustrates the principles of kama (desire), dharma (duty), and artha (wealth) through the actions of Aja, his noble ancestor Dilip, and the charitable Raghu. Ram, the son of Dashratha, embodies traits from these characters—nobility, charity, and love. The narrative foreshadows Ram's own trials, particularly the challenges he faces when Surpanakha's actions lead to Sita's abduction and a subsequent war, ultimately resulting in the tragic separation from Sita due to societal pressures. Just as Aja could not live without Indumati, Ram also suffers from the loss of his beloved.
