On her 16th birthday, Rosei receives birthday wishes from her fellow hostellers but struggles to hide her inner sadness. The maid, known as pagli thunti, has a tough life marked by hardship and loss, having lost her husband and raised her children in difficult circumstances. Despite her struggles, the old lady maintains a resilient spirit and has a unique presence, often singing and defying societal norms. Rosei, however, dismisses the old woman when she arrives, showing a lack of recognition for the hardships the maid has endured. The story highlights the contrast between Rosei's outward beauty and the old lady's inner strength, raising questions about perception, compassion, and the value of human connection.
