ઓહોહો... વાત જ જાણે એવી હતી કે આખા ગામની છાતી પર જાણે કાળો ડામ લાગી ગયો હોય! નાનકડું, શાંત ગામ, જ્યાં સવાર પડે ને પંખીડાના કલરવ સિવાય ભાગ્યે જ કોઈ મોટો અવાજ સંભળાય. ખેતરોની લીલીછમ હરિયાળી ને માથે નીલમ જેવું આકાશ. ગામના ચોરે બેઠેલા વડીલોની વાતોના ગણગણાટથી ને ઘરની ગાય-ભેંસોના ભાંભરવાથી જ આખું વાતાવરણ જીવંત રહેતું. પણ આજે તો વાત જ જુદી હતી!આજે પહેલીવાર ગામની ભાગોળે પોલીસ પટેલની ગાડી આવીને ઊભી રહી હતી. સફેદ ખાદીના ધોતિયા-ઝભ્ભામાં ને માથે પાઘડીએ શોભતા પોલીસ પટેલની આણ આખા પંથકમાં વર્તાય. એમનું ગામમાં આવવું એટલે કોઈ મોટો અપરાધ થયો હોય તેની ખાતરી. આખા ગામના ચહેરા
